Electronics Scosche Digital FM Transmitter and USB Charger

Domain Name Com's - Electronics : Scosche Digital FM Transmitter and USB Charger

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Nice look, nice performance but still an FM Transmitter
Great look. I initially thought this wouldn't work too well in my car becuase of the permanent angle it has to it but I was wrong, looks great in my 06' ford focus and is very functional the way it sits. A big plus is nothing is hanging off of the unit, no cords and no additional mess.

The USB placement is very POOR. As others have said you may find that you have to plug in the USB cable before plugging in the FM transmitter and the cord will likely be bent after the use - not the point where it ruins your cable though. If they would have placed the port facing to the side rather then the back this would get full stars.

I find to get the best sound I turn my player (Slacker G2) up all the way and adjust the car radio level from there. I find this is necessary because I don't have any blank channels and only a few static stations where I live and will tend to get static if I have to crank my radio volume. Overall this was just figuring out what worked best for me.

For those of you that don't truly understand what a FM transmitter is then let me try and explain. A transmitter put your signal out to your radio, if you search through your stations and can't find one that is blank or just static then don't buy one... no matter the brand. Those that complained they can't find a radio station to tune to and blame the transmitter are in need of this information as NO FM transmitter will work - look for a FM modulator instead.

Overall I am happy with this and surprised that it works this well. By design FM transmitters play lower quality then hooking directly to your radio via a direct input or a CD would. If your radio doesn't have this and you don't want to spend the money to buy a new radio, buy an upgrade kit for your current radio or a FM modulator then in general a FM transmitter is you best option.

This is solid unit that gets the job done!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Fails to perform its only function
I had high hopes that this would work for my LG Dare music phone. It simply did not live up to my standards. I was not expecting high fidelity sound, but I wasn't expecting have to turn my stereo all the way up so that you could hear it. I would also have to change stations every five minutes. I immediately returned the device and ordered the Jabra SP700 Bt Speakerphone(which is a near perfect product).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent product
This device works well and looks good. Of course, an FM modulated device is never going to sound as good as a direct plug-in device, but in my experience, this one is far better than average in sound quality. I also like the hardware features such as the pivoting stem and easy to read blue-backlit display. The ability to charge USB devices is a super-nice feature that I didn't really appreciate until I needed it one time! And finally, I like the fact that the audio plug is not hard-wired like most others I've had ... so there is a much smaller potential that the device will be ruined when the cord gets accidentally wrapped around something and yanked when exiting from the vehicle (do you think maybe I did that once or twice with other similar products, eh?). Good job on this one, Scosche!

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - looks cool and thats about it
looks great, much more compact and its sleek design makes it more visually appealing. but it just doesn't work as well as the Belkin tunecast II. having the usb charger on the side is helpful, but I still need performance, and its got some just not enough to command a higher price than the tunecast II by belkin. happy hunting ladies and gentlemen

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - With some improvements, could be great
I've been using this product for a month now. I gave it 4 stars because my gripes are relatively minor. For one, on a sunny day the LCD screen can be almost impossible to read. I've had occasions where I've had to physically cup around the LCD in order to guess at what station I'm on. My other problem is with the uncomfortable placement of the USB port on the device. The port is right on the side of the device so I have to put my usb cable in it before I put it in the cigarette lighter. The usb cable will be bent all over after use.

The device however really works as it should. A few design flaws don't change that. Make sure to find a station with very little signal out on it already and you'll get nice sound. Not CD quality or anything but I think it's been better than the Griffin ipod car dock I used to have (that I can play my Zune, my old Ipod Nano, and my cousin's sirius portable).
I've attached the usb cable to an old usb hub I had laying around so I can power multiple devices on the very rare occasions that I do. I recommend using an old hub either way so you have your usb slots available to you at any time. Even an extender will do well for you.

If the manufacturer made one with a nicer LCD screen and a more comfortably place USB slot, I think they'd have a winning product just on the versatility alone.
