Software Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac

Domain Name Com's - Software : Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Waaaaay too slow
Using this program makes my iMac (core 2 duo, with default 1 gig memory) run REALLY slowly, usually making the program almost unusable. [Contrast this to iWork (a small fraction of the price, by the way) which opens much more quickly and runs super smoothly.] Office has also crashed on me a few times (I'm running Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11. Maybe its more stable on Leopard?).

I also don't understand why people get this because they need Office compatibility. I opened a document from Word 2003, and in Pages it looked like the original, but in Word 2008 the margins were different and words showed up on different lines.

The program looks nice with its blue glass, but to tell you the truth, iWork looks more elegant and has its good looks without sacrificing intuitive use. I mean, in iWork you can have the text formatting toolbar always show, but in Office you always have to choose between one kind of toolbar set or another (in a side-window). For people used to using Office 2003 on Windows (like me), you'll actually feel less at home in Office 2008 than in other programs (like iWork or even the simple OpenOffice.org).

I have Office 2008 and iWork, and while I can highly recommend iWork, I keep the Office icons out of the Dock. I even find myself opening Word documents in Pages more often than in Word because its just more reliable and it loads the documents just fine. Save yourself the time and money, and don't get this program.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - not what i expected
I have also had many crashing episodes of both word and ppt.
Pro's..slightly faster, don't have to deal with a million toolbars. I like the automatic lines that pops up when moving objects in ppt. It also automatically taps into your iphoto to insert pics, which is nice.
Con's...PPt don't think you can do motion path as you can on windows. This really is anoying.
Word...no endnote yet.

So currently I am running both office 04 and 08 on my computer, and both seem to run ok together.
I do like the new version as its faster, but the old version is more stable. These issues hopefully
will improve with software updates in near future. Endnote web-site shows that they are working on
a integration.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - License allows an additional laptop install
The Office 2008 license allows installation on both a desktop system and a laptop. It also allows you to transfer the license to new systems, over time. Unlike the Windows version, there is no product activation requirement.

From the license:
* "You may install another copy on a portable device for use by the single primary user of the licensed device."
* "You may uninstall the software and install it on another device for your use ..."

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - The worst MIcrosoft product in the history
This version of Office is a down-grade from 2004. MS omitted vital parts of the system making it unuseful for students/teachers/scientists
1. Excel - unuseful as described in earlier statements (mainly problems with using analysis and for some reason they emoved possibility of using real error bars (cutom)... move impossible to understand
2. Powerpoint - decides for you what you can group /ungroup etc.
3. Word - incompatible with reference managers such as endnote
The only part that's a bi improved is entorague...
bottom line... I deleted the software I purchased and I am using 2004 again !!!!!!
I WANT MY MONEY BAAAACCCCKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Don't waste your money
As a big Excel user, I eagerly preordered and purchased this program, anticipating faster speed since it would run natively on my intel mac, and looking forward to being able to handle spread sheets with more than 65000 rows of data. Well I got one thing. What I didn't know was that I would be trading Visual basic support for this.
Not only have I lost all of my macros that I have written over the years, but it still runs as slow if not slower than Excel 2004, IT hangs, crashes, and corrupts files. I had to place a support call to identify a bug in the text import wizard, which is costing me 1 of my two free support calls. The icon buttons have been moved from the floating toolbars to the top of the spreadsheet window, so that unless you leave the window wide enough to stretch across you your screen you can't access them except through a drop down menu. Need I go on? The only reason I gave it a second star is for the increased number of rows.
