- good product but misleading
I purchased this product hoping I could complete my personal returns along with my business returns for my s-corp. I was wrong. It only lets you enter your distributions via the K-1 for your personal taxes. I had to purchase TT Business as well and then only ended up using this more expensive product more like the personal TT product. Lesson learned!

I bought Turbo Tax after using Tax Cut in my last few years - Turbo tax had a better flow, better UI and more user friendly language when it comes to explaining complicated tax stuff, especially when it comes to deductions.

The federal seemed fine, but when I tried to use my 529 contributions as a deduction for my State filing (UT) it just would not allow me. It does not give me any manual way to work around it, and makes the single rate tax calculation and completely avoided my 529 contributions which would have resulted in me getting 150 dollars more in my tax return.

I think the e-filing fees are way expensive - and I did not get confirmation email from Turbo Tax (or Intuit) that my tax return e-file has been accepted by the IRS (the Program states that it would send an email as soon as it was accepted by the IRS). I started getting nervous after 48 hours within which the IRS guarantees the electronic confirmation and had to log in to the Intuit website to check my e-file status.

Since they have a big office in Orem (in Utah) I would assume that they would have tested the Utah State return a little more. I have to go through the pain of filing an amendment and mailing it out now. The online support is non responsive, and the FAQ is minimal at best in terms of imparting info.

I would avoid Turbo tax in the future, and would tell the same to anyone who seeks advise from me. I can spend the 70 bucks + some with a pro and get some peace of mind. Their idea to monetize everything while you are doing your taxes sucks.

Intuit is killing the TurboTax product. On one hand, they appear to be trying to make it entirely idiot proof, which means that non-idiots have to wade through endless screens of non-relevant questions, with an array of often misleading options. On the other hand, Intuit seems to be trying to chip away at the included feature set while attempting to monetize the very features they are removing. This is akin to manufacturers who reduce the size of their candy bar to disguise what is actually a price hike: you pay more for less.

The product differentiation with a seemingly increasing number of more expensive variations is also irritating.

I've been using the product so long, as well as Quicken, that I doubt that I will change. It still gets the job done. But Intuit, as a company, is leaving me with the feeling that its only interest is in turning me upside down and shaking me until all the loose change falls out of my pocket. I doubt that Intuit will committ corporate suicide with its attitude, but I really wonder if more people won't look at alternatives.

- Better than expected
I have always completed my own taxes. This was the first year that I used Turbo Tax Home and Business. I started a new home based business and was advise by my CPA that I could still do my taxes myself just take my time and read all the information and questions. I did just that. I was very impressed with this product. ( I had used another product in years past) The questions are asked in such a way that anyone can understand. It was easy to use and I felt confident about the accuracy with my return. I would recommend this product to anyone who is hesitant to do their own taxes.

- Very disappointing
I used Turbo Tax for a number of years but never will again. Starting a couple of years ago this product started becoming progressively worse and I now find it inadequate. A couple of examples: 1) if you have a business and buy a computer that you use both personally and for business, this software cannot work out the correct deduction; 2) if you have any trading income (futures, stocks, etc), this software cannot figure out how to report these gains correctly. The software claims it can do these things and it does do them in a "way," unfortunately my experience was it does not do them correctly. This is OK if you assume you will never be audited or don't care about an accurate return, but otherwise it's essentially worthless (or worse if you're audited).

Turbo Tax used to be an excellent product, sadly it no longer is. Current product is fine if your return is very simple, but any complexity at all and it's just not up to the job.

Bottom line: Trying to do my return with TurboTax 2007 was an extremely aggravating and ultimately unsuccessful experience. I had to go to an accountant to get my return done correctly.
