Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - U150 Error... Universal Canon error?
I've had a Canon Pixma MP610 printer for two months. It has displayed the dreaded (and common - based on a web search) U150 error twice in the last week. The first time I was able to get the printer to work after removing and re-installing the magenta cartridge about 10 times. Tonight... same message - but nothing seems to work.
The printer has the original factory ink cartridges that are now two months old and have more than 80% of their original ink.
Aside from the fact that this error is so common, the real frustration is that the printer won't print or copy anything, even black and white, because of the error.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - No USB?!?! Are you kidding me?!?!?! Response from Canon Included.
I find it incredibly hard to believe that a company as large and respectable as Canon would charge you hundreds of dollars for a product that doesn't include a $5 USB cord that is required for this thing to operate. Not to mention, they do not inform you that you'll need one! I'm surprised I have not heard or read about more complaints from this product not including the USB. Perhaps I'm missing something here - is there a hidden cord in the printer somewhere like the ink cartridges were? Is there a big note on Amazon.com or on Canon's website that states "USB Cord Required and Not Included"? What is going on here? I have to be missing something, right? I mean, if they did not include a $5 cord that is required for this thing to work, and I just paid $150 for this, I am never purchasing another Canon product and neither should you because that is just stupidity. I have to buy the cord anyway, Canon, why not just charge an extra $5?!

Literally, this product does not work if you purchase this printer alone - you need to make a completely separate purchase just to make it work out of the box. You'll get it home, and it won't work because you can't connect it. Sure, they give you a "power cord", but what's the use of having it print a test page right out of the box? What's the use in having a "power cord" if you can't use the power because it won't hook up to anything that actually has something to print? This thing looks great on my desk (and by the way, it takes up a lot of desk) - but I didn't pay $150 for this thing to sit here and look pretty.

I waited for a week for this freaking machine to arrive, paid $150+ from Amazon.com, and I get it all set up thinking I must be able to use it wirelessly, and I go to scan and it requires a USB. Un-freaking-believable.

Not only that, but I glance at the options and I have a $5 USB on Amazon or a $50 Bluetooth compatible device to make this thing work. Unreal. You charge hundreds of dollars for a product; you don't inform the customer that they need a separate cord to use it; and then you have the nerve to charge me $50 for a Bluetooth device that doesn't even work with all the functions of the device?!?!

I'd like to comment on the functionality of this product, but I'll now need to wait another week for my $5 USB cable that will cost me as much in shipping as it would for the cord. Canon went out of their way to make it difficult for their customers, and then doesn't even do their customers the justice of letting them know the USB is not included. Ridiculous. This is like purchasing a car with no engine, and is extremely inconvenient.

Just to clarify, my complaints are originally with Canon for 1) not including it, 2) not notifying the end user (unless it's in fine print somewhere; yet they inform you the PictBridge cable is not included, but do not put anything next to the USB cable), and 3) having the nerve to then request $50 for the functionality they boast is available on the printer packaging in Bluetooth functionality.

I do not enjoy dealing with stupid companies, and Canon really shows their inefficiencies with situations like this.

Here is my reply from Canon (surprisingly very quick to their credit):

Thank you for contacting Canon product support. We value you as a Canon
customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you. I am sorry to
hear that you are so unhappy with the fact that we have decided to not
include a USB cable with your MP610.

Most of the units that we sell are to replace a previous printer which
more than likely uses the same, standard USB "A to B" printer cable.
Canon has made the decision to not include the cable and keep an extra
$10 (or $40 if we included Gold plated cables) off the retail price for
a cable that the majority of our customers do not need. Some customers
may also want a basic USB cable and some may want the gold plated
version. Some may want a 10ft. cable as opposed to a 3ft. cable. It
would be unfortunate to have customers endure unnecessary expenses to
use our units, so we let the customer decide what will work best for
them. I am sorry that you were not aware of this earlier but our
retailers are aware of this and normally advise their customers as such.

If you are replacing an older USB printer, your unit should use the same
connection. If you are not replacing an older USB printer, you can
purchase the USB "A to B" printer cable from a variety of places from
WalMart to Radio Shack or any place that actually sells Canon printers.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your
PIXMA MP610.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

So, they're assuming we're replacing an older printer with a USB already. Why not leave out the power cord while they're at it? We probably already have one of those, too. Oh, and the extra paper they do us a courtesy service of sticking in there - I already have paper, right? I'm sure we have some extra ink in those old compartments - why not just leave out the ink cartridges and let us use that? If I'm buying a car - I'm sure that car I'm replacing has an engine in it; it wouldn't make sense for us to include an engine if the customer might like different options to choose from. Doesn't everything have options these days? That doesn't warrant not including anything at all and 'providing a service' to your customers by forcing them to go out of their way to purchase one, and not informing them that you're doing this. They even state that the PictBridge cord is not included, and this is RIGHT NEXT TO THE STATEMENT ABOUT UTILIZING A USB. Why would they go out of their way to state a non-essential cord is not included, and a few words prior to that, they don't even state that the most essential cord in the box is not included.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever encountered with a purchase, and that is no exaggeration. You're purchasing a car with no engine - bottom line. But it's for your convenience because you probably already have an engine.

By the way, I don't know if you caught this, but they're blaming Amazon.com for not informing the customers directly on the USB cord not being included. Even if they informed Amazon.com of this issue, they're saying that they are not accountable for the information they post on their own site? It doesn't say anything about a USB cord not being included on the site, and they list every possible detail on there except for this. Amazon.com is not responsible for this, although I can't believe there are not more complaints like this one.

This is my first review, and the only reason I went out of my way and took a lot of time to write this is because the consumer, and Amazon.com, deserve to know how Canon is 'serving' their customers. Canon has gotten very cocky over the years, and I use their cameras, as well. This was the last straw for me, and this company has gotten too big for its own good. People deserve to know about this, and Amazon.com deserves to know that Canon is throwing them under the bus in behind-the-scenes conversations with their customers.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very pleased!
I am very please with this printer. Mind you, I have only had it about 2 weeks, but compared to the dell I had before, this one is great! Couldn't find the outlet cord at first, they packed it away pretty good, but it was easy to set up. 100% recommend!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent value printer
Canon Pixma MP610 is a top rated printer by Consumers Reports. I trust their expertise. I have had this printer for a month with no complaints. It is fast and quiet. The print quality seems fine. This printer has 5 different ink cartridges, which make me nervous about future cost of replacement. Installation was simple and the features are extensive. Overall, I am very satisfied.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great
Wonderful printer, wonderful picture print quality. Love it. It did take a while to assemble, but the written and photographic instructions were very clear and precise. If I can put this together, you can. Attractive to look at. AND I can buy the print cartridges at Wal-Mart.
