There are pretty much two criteria for an anti-virus McAfee software. Does it catch the viruses and spyware? And does it kill my hard drive?

I don't know about the viruses and spyware. I've been running without my last version for so long that I should have some. So far this one doesn't seem to catch anything so either I've been very lucky in my Web browsing (being as careful as I can) or it's not very good. I think it's ok.

However, my computer is now slow since I put it in. While this helps me to get rid of the useless programs that have been installed before I got the thing (or were installed without really needing to be installed so I could watch one video clip or the other) it's still annoying. So I'll probably turn this off after I do one Virus Scan. Maybe use it every so often, but I really hate the way new software seems to always slow things to a crawl. I'm not rich. I have to buy the cheapest computer in the catalog in those rare moments when I need to buy a computer so I'm not about to have a great deal of memory.

I got this to try out a new virus protection software after years of beign a Norton user....well I'm not impressed it installed simply enough but it also slowed my computer down to a crawl. It also keeps trying install itself again AND scan my computer for viruses everyday. At least my Norton did not do that and it did not slow my computer down to where I could barely use it like this stuff does. I'm glad I did not put it on out other two computers..I'll be removing it from the one it is on and useing something different.

This suite was awful. If you install all the products that come with this bundle, prepare to no longer be able to use your computer.

It took me 10 minutes to open the control panel and about 5 minutes to open internet explorer after installing this.

I slowly started uninstalling all the bundled products until i got down to just the antivirus and while it ran quicker it was still very slow.

I uninstalled it completely, then installed Avast (free antivirus) and my computer is now running great.

It is mind boggling to me how a product this bad made it out the door. My only thought is that maybe this is geared 99.9% towards Vista since I am running XP.

If you have XP stay away (far away) from this product.

Is it possible for a product to be too much of a good thing? Perhaps in this case this McAfee product is not too much in some ways. It offers to protect your computer and everything on it, and it does just that. It also takes up a great deal of your computer to do all it promises, it also can make it run just a little slower. The initial setup was not at all difficult, and I have not as yet seen any problems with it. The only problen I do have is wondering if I might not need all the services it provides. I think I personally prefer just having AVG anti-virus software, instead of this software.

I rate this software lower than the lowest rating available here. I installed it and immediately there were problems with my computer. My computer shut down automatically and the list of problems go on and on.
It cost me $75.00 and considerable lost time to uninstall it and revert to a free trial program for AVG which has performed flawlessly. I will buy the complete AVG suite soon.
