- Seems to work just fine.
My problem with most "protection" software is that they crank down on your activity so hard that you can't run Internet browsers or multiplayer games. This version of McAfee doesn't seem that strict, which is good thing.

Going into this install, I knew there was a bug/virus roaming around on my PC (Windows XP Pro, SP3) and was hoping that McAfee would search and destroy. Well... it did. It found over 400 infected files and cleaned/deleted them. Problem was, some of those files were required to make Windows work. After a restart, I was greeted by a Blue Screen of Death. After a few more restarts, I was able to get Windows to run an update which cleared up the the BSoD problem. So, my machine is currently "clean" and running fine.

I have experienced a few slow-downs while gaming online when McAfee downloads an update in the background. Annoying, but not enough so to make me poke around in the settings and figure out how to change it from doing that.

Getting three installs out of one disc is a good thing. BUT, I'm with other folks: software that pushes you for a credit card online, but won't let you stop service online is a bad thing. Making me call up to stop charging me is bad enough; but making me wait on hold, and then getting the third degree ("Why do you want to cancel?") just adds salt to the wound.

So: good software, bad customer support.

I have been using anti-virus/spyware software for a very long time. After all, it's pretty much a necessity now-a-days on the internet. For the past couple years I have been using Norton. The past year I upgraded to Norton 360. Mostly because I was comfortable with the product and it's weaknesses.

Having the opportunity to try McAfee Total Protection I decided to give it a shot. The installation was typical and not much of a problem at all. It did require three reboots which I think is a little excessive.

One of my main issues with this product is no instruction book in this huge box. If they were not going to include an instruction book why make the box so big and wasteful? The lack of an instruction book (printed anyway) is a detriment to this program as it's hard to know what each of the reported 12 features do and exactly how to use them to maximize their use. It would seem if I am paying close to $80 for this the least they could do is print an instruction book.

Aside from the instruction book when I was using certain features they seemed to be rather sluggish and seemed (to me anyway) to slow my computer down a little. This isn't to big of an issue because I have noticed the same thing with Norton 360. I know it's not my computer as it's fairly new.

Another big complaint I have with this product is it really caused my wireless network fits. error messages of all sorts and other messages that some I really didn't know what they mean.

Does this product protect from viruses/spyware/spam... probably. Will it give you a couple headaches... probably. I think it all boils down to picking your poison. If you have worked with McAfee products before then this will be fine for you. If however, you are experienced with other software and are not having a problem, I wouldn't recommend switching over. Stick with what you know.

- Why Settle For Less Protection When You Can Get The Very Best?
McAfee is THE name in computer software protection. Pure and simple, there's nobody out there creating a more safe, secure environment for systems that rely on their information being locked away from predators who make games out of spying on your unsuspectingly in an attempt to hack into your computer and steal your identity. We live in a dark, dangerous online world now, so you had better be confident in your anti-virus software. I SURE AM!

- Easy to use!
Let me begin by saying that I'm challenged when it comes to figuring out anything on a computer, so any software has to be very easy to install. In that department, the McAfee program was a breeze! Thank you for making it so easy to install. I also noticed right away that I was getting far less spam. This program blocks those nasty little spams like a football team! Right away it isolated and blocked a suspicious item that had been trying to worm its way in, and I had no idea was lurking there. Another item I look for is if it slows down my computer or makes it hard to use other programs. I've had no problems at all in these departments. With all the savy hackers out there, you can't afford not to have a program that is highly active in protecting your computer...and your identity.

- Installed with ease
I received the install CD for this product, and installed it on a PC running XP Media Center SP3. My PC had an earlier version of plain-jane McAfee installed.

The install process was rather simple, note that it required 2 reboots. Once the CD was placed in the drive, I was given the option of installing from the CD, or downloading from the Internet. I chose the download.

At no time did I supply my credit card info during the install - but after reading some of the other reviews here, I am a bit suspicious of the product - escpecially since it in essence upgraded the version I already had resident.
