Wireless Motorola MOTOROKR S9 Bluetooth Active Headphones [Motorola Retail Packaging]

Domain Name Com's - Wireless : Motorola MOTOROKR S9 Bluetooth Active Headphones [Motorola Retail Packaging]

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - I loved them, until they stopped working
I bought these a couple of years ago, not long after they had come out. The headsets took a little getting used to at first, but after a while I would almost forget they were there unless I was wearing a hat or sunglasses (which can be difficult). Sometimes I would lose signal, especially if I put anything in between my phone or ipod and them. I learned a good place to put the ipod and phone was in some sort of backback or chest pocket when I was moving around or on a table or something when I was at the gym. I could live with all that because it was great to not have to deal with wires. The calling portion worked fine, but it was sometimes hard to find the right button to answer the phone or adjust the volume. It was all great until the volume down button quit working and the things are now stuck at full volume. I haven't decided if I'm going to buy another set, but I probably will b because I liked them so much. It's interesting that they sell them without the retail packaging. Almost as if they know there will be some people that may have to buy another set after the original set broke after the warranty expired.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Cool looks, mediocre performace.
I think the looks and comfort of this headset are phenomenal. This is a comfortable headset that doesn't scream for attention and allows me to have a functional hands-free phone experience. I will get right down to the pros and cons:

PROS:
* Comfortable to wear and stay in place.
* Very good call reception quality.
* Decent stereo music playback quality.
* Fairly good battery life.
* Universal USB charging port.
* Easy pairing.
* Good looks that don't look ridiculous or "rude".

CONS:
* Sometimes very poor call quality when talking. I've had people complain that they had a hard time understanding me while I'm driving (windows shut, stereo off). I think it amplifies ambient sound that will drown out voice.
* Music sound quality requires a bass boost. I've found that this headset is geared more for voices in the middle and higher ranges. Music can sound tinny.
* There is a need for an adjustable headband. The headset stays on, but can sometimes feel like it's flopping in the back. I have a medium (7 1/4) hat size.

I don't think this product is quite "there", especially if you are looking to use it for phone calls. I use mine primarily with a BlackBerry Pearl and a Motorola Q and the better sound quality comes from the BlackBerry, so the type of device you are using with it does matter.

Still, I received this as a gift for Christmas, 2007, and was excited at the time. I would suggest looking in to the newer version, the Motorola S9-HD, which has improved sound quality:

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Youll Be Sorry Ill told you so.....
These are the most uncomfortable bluetooth headset around. Very poor sound quality with constant hissing and very bulky. Sports headset? You cannot run on the treadmill with these because if you turn your head the headset with scratch your ear and fall out. You cannot weight lift on bench because the headphones will pop out when you lay down from the headrest. You cannot DO ANYTHING BUT SIT STILL WITH THESE uncomfortable tight headset on your head. Anyone with glasses should never purchase any headphones or headset that goes around the ear. S9 or most products from motorolla do not seem to have too much thought in the design. HMMM... let see most techno geeks wear glasses so WHY would you design products that go around the ear ???

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Started out great....
I really enjoyed my Moto Rokr s9's for the first week. Then the touch buttons to turn the sound up and down stopped working. Then the move 1 song back button stopped working. Then today the volume, which I can't control via the buttons on its own went down while I was wearing them without me doing anything. And I can't get the volume back up because the buttons stopped working. Fortunately Amazon is sending me a replacement, but I am expecting better quality out of these. If not I will lower my rating to zero stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great wireless solution
Honestly, I wasn't expecting much. I wanted a wireless solution for my ipod (and other bluetooth audio) so that I could walk around the offices without taking off the phones or grabbing the ipod. I did get the ipod dock adapter, but I also have an audio jack adapter.

I have read much about the quality of bluetooth audio, and have so far been discouraged. I expected tinny, scratchy audio but this was not the case. I am a hardcore audiophile, and regularly wear the bulky but awesome Sennheisers, only reverting to the earbuds when mobile. I can say, without hesitation, that the S9 headset is nowhere near as great sounding as the Sennheisers, but nowhere near as bad as some earbuds I've tried. Better sound and fit than the bundled apples, and almost, but not quite, on par with Sony's MX series, although, still, better fitting. For me, I was always irritated pulling a wire wrong and losing an earbud. Apple's seem to require replacement often.

These are NOT adjustable, and it may be annoying for some to tilt your head all the way back and feel the rear of the headphones. However, they are incredibly light, and you will not feel them at all unless you try. They stay put, and, most importantly, I have yet to lose an ear during any activity. I ride bikes, workout, and they are tremendous audio partner's for this. They also come with 3 sets of buds, so adjustment shouldn't be a problem. I have read complaints about not being able to lay back or launge with them. I use them when I'm up, walking around, working out, or working, and when I'm, lounging I use my Sennheiser's, so I don't have a problem. If you're looking for great stationary sound, spend the money on a good set of wired phones.

The buttons on the ears can be frustrating at first, because as you're getting used to them, you will adjust the ears and inadvertantly hit a "previous track" button. I quickly adjusted to this and after a day of use, this is no longer a problem for me, and, in fact, love the ease of the buttons for volume and track selection. They are easy to find by feel due to the design. I cannot comment on how well they work for use with a phone also, as I do no use them with my phone. Battery power is true to description, I fully charged them, drained them fully, charged them fully (according to instructions), and got slightly over 6 hours with them. Not 7, but over 6 isn't bad.

For those who don't find them loud enough, adjust the volume on your audio device BEFORE you insert the adapter. I have had no problems with audio volume. The ipod doesn't seem to push enough for my Sennheiser cans, but these are powered well.

Pairing was incredibly easy, much easier than previous BT headsets for my phone. Turn on the ipod or audio device, play a song, press pause, hold the power button on the phones to light it steady blue, plug in the adapter to the dock (or audio jack if you have that adapter), unpause, and wait about 5 seconds for the music to start playing through the phones. Anyone who has had trouble pairing I can't understand. Worked great for me the first time, and I could (unlike the sets for my phones) pair again without refering to the instructions.

In all, I am incredibly happy with this purchase. They sound better than most earbuds, are so light you won't feel them, and put just enough pressure on your ears to keep them in place, but not make your ears hurt like most earbuds. They aren't adjustable, but I find this minor compared to the convienience of wireless with my ipod. I had also used these with a stereo bluetooth adapter for audiojacks, and they work quite well. I can't complain, I love them and they fullfill their purpose completely.
