- Awesome software and easy to use
Little to say. It takes a snap shot of the HDD and it backs up as you work. I notice the slow down on the system, but little to pay for a sure back up.

I am a network administrator so I love all the options to back up to different media. I highly recommend it for anyone who does not have a backup solution. Get your self an external HDD and backup to it.

I have a few machines which are not in the office running this. when they come in I attach a USB drive and less than an hour later I return to get the backup image. If you are not sure, download it and try it for free.

After installing this software on my computer, I tried to create the Acronis Secure Zone which is an invisible partition on your hard drive. The software suggested that I create the Acronis Secure Zone. I created the Acronis Secure Zone on my Drive D. My free space on Drive D was lowered by approximately 75GB. When attempting to start a backup to the Acronis Secure Zone, I got a message that the Acronis Secure Zone was not available. I contacted Acronis Support via e-mail. I did receive responses within two days, but their suggested fixes did not fix the problem. We went back and forth for several days and when they suggested that I change settings in my BIOS, I decided to get permission from Amazon to return the software. I had to reformat my D Drive to remove the invisible partitions. With the difficulty that I had with this software, I would not suggest that you try to create the Acronis Secure Zone on your C Drive. I really don't know if other portions of the software work or are relizble. I was unable to do any backups. 1

- Buggy and terrible support - too bad - great when it works.
The Good: Easy, logical interface, bootable emergency disks, backups can be mounted as a disk drive and browsed using the Windows Explorer interface.

The Bad: Consistently poor software reliability after years of multiple version use, incredibly slow technical support response, very poor technical support accessibility.

I've been using Acronis True Image since version 8, and for years have had numerous problems with all version's reliability. I've personally experienced all of the following: Sometimes the restored files are corrupt and although they can be copied to the system, they can't be opened by their application. Sometimes the "Emergency Boot Disk" doesn't seem to know it's an emergency and can't find the system hard drive. Sometimes it can't find a USB disk drive. Sometimes the backup files are corrupt and can't be read, and on and on. There are new program versions posted fairly often so problem "A" will be fixed, only to be replaced with problem "B".

The classic Acronis Catch-22:
1. You need to restore your files because your computer has crashed.
2. There is a problem with Acronis True Image.
3. You can't contact Acronis technical support until your files have been restored.
4. If you are able to open a case, prepare to wait for days for a response.
5. Go to step 1.

Many of the problems I've had have eventually been addressed by Acronis' technical support, but getting a response from them usually takes days. Last time I opened a support case on Monday morning and received my first non-automated email response on Friday! As noted above, there is no phone, fax or chat support (even if you're willing to pay for it) so there is simply no way of getting bugs resolved faster so you can get back up and running.

I have been forced to reload Windows and all applications from scratch at least 3 times (while waiting for a response from technical support) since I purchased Acronis True Image. I've had my computer down or needed files recovered and waited for days for a response from Acronis. All software has bugs, but what's the point of a backup program if you can't reliably restore your data in an emergency.

I've retired True Image and am looking for another program.
