Canon LA-DC58H Conversion Lens Adapter for Canon G7 & G9 Digital Cameras

Domain Name Com's - : Canon LA-DC58H Conversion Lens Adapter for Canon G7 & G9 Digital Cameras

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Aluminum Would Be Better
For the money spent, seems a little on the cheap side. Spend the extra $5 bucks and get a Lensmate Aluminum Adapter.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Read the manual
After reading all of the negative reviews I couldn't believe canon would sell a product without instructions. I reviewed the manual and THERE ARE instructions on who to use the conversion lens adapter, the optional lenses and even the external flash!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Sure, it is essential.
This product is very good and I would choose high-impact plastic (which it is) over any metal material. The plastic is light and tough and will not wear away the vital surfaces on the camera; mine is a G9, or the accessories. The fact is you may want one of these for each of your accesories so that you can leave it attached always, 3 individual adapters would be enough...wide lens, tele lens and a 58mm polarizer. The end used for the accessory is a screw-on with fine threads, so having each accessory already attached is a major short-cut. The other end is a modified bayonet and goes on and off pretty quick.

I do believe Canon should include "cheap" end caps for the camera (bayonet) end so that the attached adapter is sealed. The end cap that comes with the lens is too big. And for the price of this adapter it should include the cap.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A great accessory for your Canon G7 ot G9
While this accessory is kind of expensive for what it is, (just a simple piece of plastic), it is necessary for use with the optional Canon converter lenses. As a stand alone accessory, it acts as a lens hood for the built-in G7/G9 lens, and also allows you to attach 58mm lens filters. I do recommend it, but I only gave it a rating of "4 stars" because it is overpriced.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - CANON, HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE?
I recently purchased this dinky overpriced piece of plastic for my G9.

But the build quality isn't the main problem here. The main problem is that it comes with no instructions whatsoever. Now, this is a pretty simple accessory and I'm a reasonably intelligent person, so I didn't think this would be much of a problem.

I was wrong. I removed the bayonet ring as all the reviews say you must do. I see a white dot on the DC58H, none on the camera. So I gently put the DC58H on with the white dot near the top and it appeared to snap into position. But it wasn't. It still rotated back and fourth about an inch. I went to take it off and try again, and found that it was IMPOSSBILY STUCK ON THE CAMERA. I tried turning back and fourth for nearly an hour. Wouldn't budge. Since it is cheap and plastic I tried squeezing it hoping that it would bend enough to pop off. Nope. Then finally, I got it off by forcing it with a hard turn clockwise, and bending the DC58H at the same time. I probably shouldn't have done this, and I'm lucky the camera wasn't damaged.

After this incident, I noticed that there is an alignment mark on the G9, but it isn't white, its just an indentation that can easily be mistaken for a spec of dust. The DC58H does attach properly when aligned, if you have a magnifying glass to find the mark.

Shame on Canon for selling an overpriced piece of junk, for a flawed design that allows it to go on wrong and get stuck, and most of all for being too cheap and stupid to include an instruction sheet that would only need to be the size of a post it and cost less than a cent.

Before you waste your money on this, google the lensmate, which is essntially a 3rd party metal version of this thing for only a few dollars more. Maybe it even comes with instructions and is designed well enough not to get stuck on your camera in the wrong position. I'll find out when I get mine.
