Domain Name Com's - Software : Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic UPGRADE [DVD] [OLD VERSION]

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Time will tell
I like this so far but it takes time to get use to.I ordered this from amazon and formated a hard drive ahead of time and loaded windows 2000 profesional before I got vista in the mail to get it ready but when I got vista and tried to install it the vista said it could not install from this OS.to make a long story short I hade to install XP over again plus it would not install with out downloading sevice pack 2. I have high speed internet but it made me feel sorry for people with dial up it would take them all night before they could even install vista.when I did get it installed I was disappointed because it did not have all the cool features like they showed on tv like the aero.so I hade to upgrade to premium to get it.I think they should have put it all in one like XP and windows 98 did. its only a way of getting more money out of everyone I think.maybe in the future microsoft will give aero as a free update download. all that said I like vista. people use to say bad things about windows XP when it first come out. it takes time to grow on you and get use to plus im sure they will get more updates for drivers and such.but if your going to order vista from amazon get the better one the premium or you will not get all the cool features like aero.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Window vista is better than window XP
Honestly, I am not a guy who favor more microsoft products. But Their products are no doubt damm good. I am very tired to read those negative review and complaint about "cannot upgrade from win xp pro to vista home..ect" Why don't people just read the label or run the microsoft upgrade adviser or check the vista home page and read word by word. It detail showed if you want to upgrade from win xp pro to vista home basic need a clean install. The previous version of window xp will be saved on the window.old file in your C drive. You still can retreived importing file there after you re-installed the program. After I upgraded my window xp pro to vista home basic, my machine is faster and the online experience is better. I don't need to worry and waste too much time on the security issue because vista securtiy is tight. Plus you can download the one full year spyware scanner software from CA. It is free for one year. Plus window firewall control traffic both way in and out and window defender. Nice destop design. I am running P4 3.2 2Gig ram, 6800GT with 128MB video with no problem using vista. This is not a high end machine, so don't worry too much about the hardware compatibility. Window vista comes with a lot of preinstalled new drivers for todays hardware. I only download the new sound card driver from creative lab. Vista home basic is worth each penny.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Can't dual boot
You can not use this version to do a clean install in a different partition than your XP SP2. If you want to run both XP and Vista you must buy a full edition version. XP allowed you to do this.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Horrid
If you're considering upgrading to Vista, please don't. It's not worth your time and money.

Everybody has (unfortunately) experienced the Windows problem: it crashes and freezes, hogs resources and confuses the user for no reason whatsoever. But you still HAVE to use it because that's the monopoly.

Seeing how that's the case, don't buy into more of the monopoly by upgrading to Vista. It's not a better OS than XP. In fact, it's very much worse. At least XP is a far more stable platform with a somewhat proven (and disproven) track record. With Vista you're looking at a completely different story. The OS isn't finished, regardless of what the box says. Think about it: Microsoft is already developing a Service Pack for Vista, and it's only been publically released for a week!

One of the advantages Microsoft keeps pressing is Vista's "better" protection against hackers and security leaks. It's not true. In fact, 90% of current Windows viruses will work on Vista with no problems. Furthermore, the added "security" hinders you more than helps. For instance, did you know you're paying for a tax on the Vista lisence to 3rd party companies who believe you'll end up illegally downloading their software via Bittorent or Limewire or whatnot? It's true. That inflated $150.00 pricetag isn't paying for Vista. No. It's giving a third of that cash to those other software companies that have already labled you a criminal before you even do anything (or even regardless of the fact that you never intend to steal).

You should also consider that though the new Aqua interface looks nice and neat, it really is a carbon copy of Apple's Mac OSX. Don't believe me? Google it. Microsoft copied many elements almost exactly from OSX, and just renamed the addons. That's it. Unfortunately for Microsoft, stealing little plugin ideas doesn't stable make an OS. Oops.

Listen, I know everybody is trying to drive Vista into your heads, but don't let that confuse your reasoning. Furthermore, do you really want to pay $150.00 for an operating system that's not finished and was rushed through only so that Microsoft could beat Apple to their own new OSX.5 Leopard due to release in March?

And, just before you sigh and think you can handle the risks, consider that there's a very big difference between the Home Basic and Ultimate versions of Vista. There are a LOT of things Ultimate has that you won't ever get access to in Basic. And there's hardly any difference between Basic and Home Premium. Now, if you say you just want to use the OS for daily things and don't intend to dive into the OS's proclaimed advanced features...then why are you buying it in the first place? XP will do the job very nicely indeed.

If you really want the entire Vista experience buy the Ultimate edition. And fork up your month's paycheck. And prepare to relearn your computer environment. Oh, and don't forget to keep your expectations very low.

Vista is a waste of time and effort. Invest in a Mac.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - XP Professional Cannot be Upgraded with Vista Home Basic
Please note that the notes under "Product Features" are incorrect. You cannot "upgrade" from XP Professional to Vista Home Basic with this DVD. You will be prompted early in the upgrade process that XP Pro can only be upgraded to Vista Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate. You are however given the option to do a "clean install" of Vista Home Basic, thus wiping out all your software and files.

Not good Microsoft -- people want to know the details before they order!
