I thought that I might be able to use this product intuitively, after using Office 2007 for years. Not so. After installing Office 2007, I had to buy (locally) a good book to teach myself how to use it. I recommend
"Using Microsoft Office 2007, Special Edition (Special Edition Using) (Paperback)" ISBN 0-7897-3517-2 , 1020 pages, Que, $26.39 at Amazon. I have a lot to learn and it will take some time. One reason why I bought the 2007 version is that Microsoft no longer supports the 2000 version, and my new HP F380 printer would not print documents from the 2000 version of Office. I would be a lot happier using the 2000 version because it was compatible with older documents (backward compatible). The 2000 version has mail delivery bar codes for the zip code. Apparently the 2007 version does not. The menus and toolbars are gone, replaced with a "Ribbon", a strip of tiny icons and commands at the top of each program's interace.
The binary file formats of older versions are replaced with Extensible Markup Language (XML)which may not be compatible with older file formats.
I have to study "Understanding and choosing File Formats, page 54"
This progam makes me think of firing up an old PC with "PFS Write" on it,
an old easy-to-use DOS-based word processor. So far as I know, it could still work quickly, save files in various formats, and be fairly idiot-proof: it needs no support from anyone. I'll be spending a long while reading about Office 2007 before I achieve any familiarity with the program, and that is NOT what I wanted to do. I will be researching how to download Office Compatibility Packs (converters) so I can call up old files. I want to be able to save files as .text if I can; I haven't found that yet. Suggestion: If folks can find a course in Office 2007 at a local high school or night school, consider taking it; it will pay off
in time saved studying this difficult program.

I upgraded to Microsoft Office 2007 because Microsoft no longer provides technical support for Office 2003.
In my opinion the new Office 2007 is full of bugs. As an I example I had previously developed a large (23 meg) PowerPoint presentation using Office 2003 that had worked fine under PowerPoint 2003. However, Microsoft Office 2007 has now corrupted the presentation. Special graphics such as custom bullets do not display under PowerPoint 2007. Under PowerPoint 2007 the text in text boxes, such as title boxes, falls outside the box.
It will probably take me more than 200 hours to clean up the mess in this presentation that was caused by upgrading to Microsoft Office 2007.
In summary, beware of switching to Microsoft Office 2007 if you have previously developed large files under Office 2003.

I am far from an expert, and I have spent many hours trying to get things to work, but this - and VISTA - are the worst! for the neophyte, it is very difficult. MS seems to be trying to be "cute" and fancy, but they do not have much for the ordinary user. My advice is STAY WITH XP & 2003 as long as you can. Maybe when the USERS get things straightened out, it will be better.

I beta tested the new office since last year. I had already spent lots of time in the help section and online learning the program. I really liked the new junk folder in outlook and decided to spring for the program after the beta and trail versions ran out.
