I'm using the 64-bit version. I am really liking this os. I don't have the problems that others have reported. Everything (except graphics drivers initially and they still worked, just not great) is faster and runs better than it did in xp. Part of the equation is that my hardware is up to the task. You can't take a Mustang engine and put it in a Pinto and expect it to work properly.

Quite simply, Vista is a mess. Very buggy. Many programs and such that don't run well, or at all, with Vista. The more I discover, the more I find out. I second the opinion of many who have submitted reviews -- stick with XP for as long as possible, unless you are buying a new PC or notebook, then, of course, you are stuck with Vista! Microsoft should be ashamed. I am ready to switch to a MAC!

I made a clean, full install of Windows Vista on my pc laptop which was previously running on Windows XP system. Vista is a total disappointment for me. It is true that Vista is visually more pleasing than XP but my computer runs much slower than it used to. It also has a lot of problems connecting to the internet. It will look like it is connected but when you open your browser you will not be able to see any web pages. Sometimes it takes 10+ attempts to connect to the internet. Programs will freeze, they will look like they saved your file but will not be able to open them again. All your work may easily get lost. I contacted many software and hardware companies about many different problems (most of the software I use are supposed to be Vista compatible) and was advised not to use Vista. HP technicians also advised me to uninstall Vista and go back to XP. This is the last time I am spending my money on a PC system. I wonder how come Windows is not ashamed of releasing such a bad product. Time has come to say goodbye to anything bears a Microsoft logo. I have no faith in this company's ethics and it's product's reliability. Goodbye Microsoft. I lived enough misery through your flawed softwares.

- Improvement over Windows XP isn't clear
My computer includes a 64 Bit AMD 3.0 GHZ CPU, an ATI all in Wonder Video Card, 10,000 rmp SATA drive & 2Gb of DDR2 RAM. This is a fast machine with expensive components compared to the average Dell, HP or other clone PC's.

Vista Ultimate coupled with Office 2007 cut the speed of the machine by 25% compared to Windows XP and Office 2003 that was running on the same machine before my "upgrade." I've had to shut off many of the new nifty features of Vista to speed the machine up. In addition, I've had to re-purchase new virus protection and spy ware protection because these programs, though still under license, don't work with Vista. Vista Ultimate was about a $900.00 mistake when taking into account the replacement software, the cost of Vista and the need to add additional memory and other higher end components to get my computer up to its old speed under Windows XP. Most of my CPU power seems to be used simply to run virus and spy ware protection to allow for Microsoft's inability to provide effective security protection for its operating system.

In addition, some Microsoft branded hardware (wireless keyboard) I purchased recently still lack drivers for Microsoft Vista. Also, forget about getting third party utility software for a while. Though Vista has been our for over a year, everyone seems to still be in the Beta development phase.

The only justification I can think of for buying Vista would be if software manufacturers stop making or upgrading programs for Windows XP or if some new killer application comes out that only runs on Vista.

I gave Vista Ultimate 2 stars rather than 1 because my machine crashes at about the same frequency as Windows XP with SP2 installed. In this respect, it's not any worse than Windows XP.

I just bought a new computer, and it came with Vista. What a mistake. Nothing but trouble coming off Vista. If you want the "graphics" of Vista, buy a Mac, they just copied them from Macs. If you want a Windows that works, go with XP! Whatever you do DO NOT BUY VISTA. Until they fix all the problems, but with Microsoft, that will be never...
