Electronics Philips SHN2500/37 Noise-Canceling Earbuds

Domain Name Com's - Electronics : Philips SHN2500/37 Noise-Canceling Earbuds

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not bad...but not for the iPhone
I bought these headphones as a last minute purchase and didn't do my research. The sound quality is good and the noise canceling is okay (I don't know about the 70% reduction...that seems a bit higher than what it actually does), but unfortunately this does not work with the old iPhone as the sunken in jack creates an issue..but you can get an adapter for that.

The major problem with using the noise canceling with your iPhone is the phone interference. Any time your phone sends or receives data, you will receive interference that obviously negates the desired effect.

However, if you do your reading on this product, you will see it is not compatible with the iPhone for this very reason.

Also, the "Compact electronics" are not very compact and the image they display is very deceiving. The actual size of the unit was shockingly big when I took it out of the package.

Other than my lack of research and the size of the "Compact electronics," this unit is an average piece of electronics. You get what you pay for comes to mind...and the price is definitely reflective of what you receive.

Three stars...since it was not horrible and not great...just ....okay.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Pretty decent
My wife got these as a "give away" from a training class. So that translates into a free set of headphones for me :)

OK, I tried one other pair of "in ear" ear buds. I did NOT like them. They kept falling out and didn't sound as great as they were touted to be. I was really skeptical when opening this package, but have to say I am pleasantly surprised listening to them now as I type this review. Decent base, very comfortable in my ear and they are staying put. I will have to give them a try when walking, but I suspect they will fall out based on my prior experience will silicon ear buds.

As for noise cancelling, there are other reviews that describe the "noise cancelling" features of these headphones. I will say this, they sound great in both normal and noise cancelling mode. And, just as important, I can't hear anything else. Pretty decent for nights that I just need to tune everything out. However, as mentioned in other reviews, I could see how the "control box" can get annoying.

Anyway, i just ordered a set of jbuds as well. I will have a decent benchmark for comparison once the jbuds are in my hands. I will update my review if I remember. In the meanwhile, I think these will just be my work headphones.

All in all, i would definitely pay $20-$30 for these.

Good luck.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Don't waste your time with these
Not worth your trouble.

The sound quality was awful, big step down from the stock iPod ear phones.

The "noise cancellation" function does no such thing. All it does is add a hissing sound and bump the volume up a tad. No detectable cancellation whatsoever.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Good sound, bad design
These headphones deliver surprisingly good sound for the price, and the noise cancelling works well. (There's the slight hiss when the noise cancelling is active, but this occurs with all noise cancelling headphones to one degree or another.) Long battery life, too.

But the cables are way too short. At 6'+, I can't walk with these because the awkward electronics/battery enclosure doesn't quite reach my pockets. And, inexplicably, the weight of the thin earbud cables is enough to drag the earbuds down against your ears, probably aggravated by the weight of the electronics enclosure. An irritating sensation; feels like they're about to fall out.

If you plan to sit and listen, or if you're very short, these will work great. Otherwise, the absence of a longer cable and a little clip to keep the cables in place on your shirt make these otherwise good headphones pretty useless.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Well worth the money
In recent years trans-Atlantic flights annoyed me with noise. First it was oppressive on the flight, then I took a while to hear normally. So I decided to try noise cancelling earphones. Being a musician phase cancelling is easy to appreciate. Then I saw the ones being advertised were $300. You can buy a decent large diaphram mic and studio headphones for less than that! I started looking for something for less. I thought it was interesting these had similar specs to $100 earphhones. I had just spent too much on toys and decided to try them.

For those people who say noise cancelling doesn't work with these I have to wonder. I switched them on when we were 10 minutes off the ground and after a bit switched them off. I wasn't sure I was getting much benefit. However after my first 4 and 6 hour flights when the pilot said to switch off electronic gear I had a shocking realization. While it didn't eliminate flight noise it reduced it to where I had mentally tuned it out. As soon as I switched off the noise reduction I got an immediate unpleasant roar of engines. It seems to get better the longer you wear them and they are very comfortable. I can't compare these to the big dogs but they are more than satisfactory and you don't look like you thought you were in the booth getting ready to lay down a vocal track.

People who got no noise reduction didn't understand the intended use or ran the battery down or something. I'm not sure how long a battery lasts but I got 22 hours in four flights. It also has an adapter for older airplane audio plugs. I haven't tried it for other things, but I think it would be good for trains too. At this price you would have to be crazy not to get these if you are travelling.
