Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - "Old Reliable" gets a new brain!
Having been a user and avid fan of the HP12C for about 25 years, I was very happy to learn from a friend that the new Platinum Anniversary Edition had been released. Although a side-by-side comparison will show the full extent of the advantages to the upgrade, suffice it to say that I will NOT miss the flashing "running" message on the screen while the 12C performs its calculations. (The results in the Platinum 12C are displayed instantly.) Since nothing functionally has changed -- all the buttons are exactly where my fingers expect to find them -- the upgraded "platinum" appearance and (for the Anniversary Edition) the leather case are all you'll see that's a bit different from the old reliable 12C. I chose the Anniversary Edition to commemorate how many years I've depended on my HP12C, although the Platinum without the anniversary markings is just as good, and adding the anniversary touches is purely a personal choice.

I could not be happier to have purchased this calculator. As a graduate business student this is a tool that I can not live without. If I could improve anything about it, I would add additional storage registers but then again this is a calculator not a computer. Overall this is a wonderful device that anyone who performs financial or statistics calculations on a regular basis should not be without.

It's the 12c that you remember, with updated face colors and a very fine leather case with magnetic latch.

I'm just starting to use the HP 12C, not a big fan of RPN, but then again that's what I bought it for.

Nice thing is that for those calculations that don't require RPN you can change back to "normal" calculator function. The case was nice as was the instruction booklet that I carry around in my briefcase and have marked up quite a bit.

Nice spot on the back to engrave your name.

The only drawbacks are that the case does not much more than cover the calculator and gives a place to put in your business card to stake your claim to it. Would have liked to have had a possible "extra battery" compartment in the least, even though I have not had to change the battery yet.

The 25th anniversary HP 12C Platinum is definitely faster than its predecessor. Good user manual, geeks will find it hard to put the unit down. The HP 12C has its strengths, particularly in chain calculations and one button percentage functions - % plus or minus, %change, %total, markup , margin as well as G.P. calculations. Once you learn RPN and how the HP stack handles numbers, you'll leave your colleagues in the dust with most everyday figuring. Comprehensive financial functions are fast, but don't lose the book. Even so, I'm hooked on this "retro" calculator.
