The GPS arrived in a few days and works great. The rocker switch on the unit sucks. It makes entering information difficult. The GPS is very sensitive and works inside my motorhome away from any windows. My old unit was an E-Map and it had to be beside a window to work. This unit also works well in deep woods. The unit is advertised as being a mapping unit. This is true if you purchase the City Navigator software for $115. The mapping does not work with the 2008 Topo software. I installed a 2 GB chip to hold the topo map. It turned out that the unit would only hold less than half of the topo map and only used 700 MB of the 2 GB available. It also took over 2 hours to download the topo data.

Got this to replace the etrex Vista CSX. This GPSr is interchangeable with my wife's GPSMap 60Cx. The 60Cx feels better in your hand but the features are identical, other than the electronic compass that we don't use. The price point was [...] less, when I bought the unit from AMAZON . The GPSMap 76CSX fits better on our Volvo dashboard than the 60Cx and makes it easier for me as a driver to see it. We use our GPSr's almost exclusively for geocaching. For our sport, the 60 & 76 models seem to be the units of choice. The Garmin Colorado has the potential to outperform these units, but not yet. A decent GPS with the features that are important. Auto routing, both serial and UBS. The micro SD it comes with is small (only 256M), a 2G is large enough to hold the whole USA metro guides.

- Understand what you're buying; I didn't
I was looking for a GPS to generate waypoints for a flying application, gathering them first on the ground. I also hoped to use the device as a car navigator. This device, which seems to work ok, for what it is. Does not come with any maps (street, marine, topo, or aviation) it does not talk and is useless in the car without maps.
I called Garmin for advice before buying this and they passed me from one department to another. Nobody knew anything about the GPSMap series, to speak of. When I bought street maps and they wouldn't load, the phone wait was 40 minutes so I sent an e-mail which has not been answered for a week now.

We bought this gps for use hiking and geocaching. We are very happy with its satelite signal, even under heavy tree cover. The only thing we wish we could get is some kind of case for it to be in and still be used without removing it. Great GPS
