I work as an Admissions counselor for a University and do a lot of traveling. Frustrated with the pages of directions from online map sites, I got advice from friends and tried the Nuvi. I've found it to be extremely helpful when finding high schools and colleges. It has also assited me in finding local food places. One great feature I've loved is the ability to search for hotels near my destination. The thing my boss loves is that he's saving money in printing and gas (yeah for not getting lost!)

A couple of problems- I've found that the turning warning is about 50 feet off. (still need to call garmin help about that) Some businesses are slightly before or after the location that the Nuvi has recorded.

I'm planning on buying at least one more for our admissions office, and am very happy with how the Nuvi has helped me to be on time to the various appointments that go along with my profession.

- Good quality, but some drawbacks
I have used it for several times during this month. It can find well-know locations, but when it comes to resident house in a small road, it has problem to navigate(it can' find it).

The map is not new, only 2006.

There was also an annoying time that the machine was dead last weekend. I had to park along the road and reset it.

I feel the Text-Speech is not very useful, because it is really not necessary to know the road name in most of the case. However, the function is well made. The road name is pronounced quite well.

In all it is a good product, but the stability need to be improved.

It is my first GPS. I have used others that my friends have. This one is a very nice compilation of features and easy to operate. I enjoy just getting around easier with this product. It is small enough to store and carry. Very functional. Spoken directions are occasionally funny in the alternate voices as they do not seem to understand road abbreviations but it is a very good product all around.

The Garmin nuvi 350 is satisfactory in all respects that I expected it to have as a GPS. I earlier had a Magellan Maestro 3200. I bought a Garmin more because of its fame. Here are some comparisons to note.

The Magellan Maestro is sleeker and cheaper. The Maestro, I bought it for around 150 (no text to speech). The Garmin has a folding antenna which makes it look bigger and bulkier. The Garmin always takes a few seconds longer to acquire satellite signal where I live. The garmin also does not have a default "Indian" restaurants and many other cuisines category in POIs. One would have to download these to the custom POIs. The most clicked button "GO HOME" is available in Magellan on the home page. But in Garmin you have to click 3 times to reach that option. Slightly inconvenient. Same with Recent destinations. The Magellan has got a much smoother scrolling interface where as the Garmin seems to be designed by Mr Fat fingers. There is no scroll. There is an up and down arrow button at the bottom right part of the screen. Also one thing you would miss is when you type in alphabets for the city, street name, the Magellan disables all the alphabets that will not yeild valid cities as you type in. It makes typing in faster. Not there in Garmin.

Some of the customizations are ofcourse awesome. Custom POIs is one. There are several sites giving out free POIs and several sites are paid. I have downloaded the vegan restaurants list just in case, since it is free. I did not know of a map update in Magellan. But I have already updated my maps on Garmin (free) via the internet. Cool stuff. I also got these icons from the garmin site for free. So my car looks like a plane on the GPS. Also playing music from the garmin GPS is cooler than playing from a CD - simply because it stops the music when it announces the directions. I bought a connector to connect the GPS to my cars auxiliary input. A 1 GB sd card holds about 300 songs. The stand that holds the GPS to the windshield is considerably smaller than that of magellan. This also means that the GPS is now further away from you. Also the charging wire goes right into stand which is neat, coz we dont have to plugin the wire into the GPS unit every time. But since it is center aligned, the wire sort of passes in front of the ac vents which is not quite aesthetic. The magellan with the side input, I could pass the wire around the ac vent to the dc charging outlet.

Overall, I think it was a good buy.

The nuvi 350 GPS navigator works great. The text to speech is an option that you want to have. I found it very helpful while driving the interstates around Milwaukee. Roads to the right, left and straight. The voice prompt or touch the screen to repeat helps to keep your eyes on the traffic. Uploading the recent map online does take a lot of time even with a DSL connection. The initial startup does take several minutes to acquire the satellites.
