- Great Security that will make your new system crawl
A new 64 bit AMD processor with 1 Gig of RAM can't run this hog. Thought dial up was slow? Get a whole new meaning of slow and buy this product. Customer service is good enough to warrant another star in the rating. Keep 2004 version if you can.

Norton is keeping pace with internet security issues but seems to really slow the machine to do it. Program takes more fine tuning than ever to personalize and ain't easy to navigate. But it is reliable and the best I've found to date.

- Miserable product
I had Norton Internet Security 2005 on my PC from the manufacture. When my one year subscription expired I updated to NIS 2006 and in the upgrade process it wiped out all of the setting and configuration info that I laboriously entered into NIS2005 during the last year - including several hundred blocked email addresses, firewall rules etc. All I can get out of the miserable indian tech support is 'sorry for the inconvenience - type the information in again'.

In addition to the above I have lost some functionality that was present in NIS2005 and they have added more bloatware to my system that I really don't want.

I will not buy this product for my other PC's

- I've used Norton Security for years...no more! HATE IT!
I've been a slave to Norton for years now. Each year it gets continually worse. Now after just upgrading to Norton Security 2006, Symantec does a normal update to the software and has caused all of my Microsoft Office software to produce an error: "Norton AntiVirus 2006 does not support the repair feature.." You go to the Symantec site, they tell you to run Live Update, then restart, then restart again. Still no go. I've run Live Update 3 times now. I still get the error. What a crock! AAAAARRRRRRGHHHHHH.

I've put up with this tremendous software glutton for years, where it scans every single thing you do and slows down even the fastest PC. One of the most annoying features is that when you are trying to shut down your PC, an error pops up that says a program is still running (it's called CCAPP.exe -- actually part of Norton). This memory hog never seems to shut down when the machine is trying to shut down...and I'm currently on a brand new $3000 Dell PC with 4 gigs of ram!! AAAAARRRRGH.

Don't buy this piece of poop. And god forbid, don't buy McAfee. It will drive you NUTS with messages every time you click something or pick your nose...and when it screws up, you're really in a hole.

I heard the PC-cillin is pretty darn good. I'm gonna try that next.

- Good protection but slow anti-virus scanning
This is a great program for preventing virus and other security attacks. Installation is easy and the people at Symantec have made the program as easy to use as possible.

The modules of the program share a common interface that you can largely set and forget. Most users will never have to tweak them, but the capability is there if you need it.

My issue with this version of Internet Security, and why the program only gets three stars, is the length of time needed to perform a full system scan. A scan that took about four hours using Internet Security 2005 seems to take at least seven hours with the 2006 release.

Perhaps the scanning algorithms have been improved or something similar. I haven't spent time researching the increase in scanning time.

All in all, Internet Security 2006 is a good product that I rely on for protection from all of the threats in email and on the web.

I've used Symantec products for over ten years and they haven't yet failed.
