After going to several stores looking for this I finally tried Amazon. It was easy to find the matching model and I've had good luck with this filter last season, so wanted to continue to use it. The product arrived quickly and is working as advertised. I'll probably buy a few more for this season and to prep for next year.


Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - gets moldy fast, but does the job
This filter is factory standard, and I've purchased a dozen or so in the past two years. I've found that soaking the filter in a mix of 1/50 bleach and water monthly will kill the mold and saves me $50 an year on the ProTec cartridges.

You should rinse out the filter afterwards, but do not squeeze the filter. It gives the filter about 3 to 4 months of lifetime before it starts to come apart.


Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Fits into the Holmes HM-3500 humidifier like a glove
Fits the Holmes HM-3500 just right. The package said it would.

Seems well constructed.

I'm not sure the blue outer surface does anything significant. Even if the blue webbing is completely "anti-microbial," how does that keep microbes from flourishing in the other 99.99% of the wick?

The dewpoint [outside] was in the upper 30s, my apartment is about 700 sq. feet, and my humidifier was coming on almost constantly. It should have been coasting along (with the fan on Low) instead of stressing. I took out the old filter, put in one of these, and with the same dewpoint, the humidifier comes on for much less time, saving electricity and my patience.

Now, I'm ready for 0 Degree dewpoints -- Bring it on.

I recommend using a mineral-dissolving Water Treatment so your wick lasts for 6 months instead of 4 weeks. I have soft water, but use a little squirt of Treatment every time I add a couple of gallons of water, regardless. I think it helps extend the wicks' life.

Lose one star:
* for not being 100% antimicrobial but including marketing jargon that implies that it is
* for not lasting forever, and
* for costing too much.


Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A great replacement filter
These replacement filters are great. They have a handle built in to keep your hands dry when removing from humidifier. The Air Washing layer is very good at catching dirt and pet hair that would get into the evaporation wick and shorten the life of the filter. This is well put together so that it stays upright even when it is wet instead of collapsing like other filters do.


Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Argh - didn't fit my Honeywell humidifier.
My stupid Honeywell humidifier does not have a marking on it saying what model it is. So when I ordered this filter, I assumed that their filters were universal.

Well, they're not. Argh.
