Lego Star Wars Sandcrawler

Domain Name Com's - : Lego Star Wars Sandcrawler

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Too little function.
Although it's fun to look at and gingerly play with, the fact is the mechanicals of the toy are lacking greatly.

First, the steering mechanism is way too delicate. You cannot press down on the vehicle. Why is this important? You need to be able to put the game players on the vehicle and if you press down, very often (three or four times in the last day) the steering mechanism pops out. It was just poorly designed. The mosaic of panels underneath around the steering column and rack-pinion steering mechanism was not play-tested enough and it shows.

Note to LEGO - you need to re-engineer the back-steering mechanism to the point where a kid can actually press down on that portion (from the top of the vehicle) and attach game peices to it.

As designed it's a contstant "Dad, can you fix this?" problem and it need not be that way.

Also, there were at least two peices in the kit that were not to spec and the plastic was deformed so that the track-runnings were cock-eyed. I've been building LEGOs for 30 years and never seen a kit with utter lack of playability and proper design.

I give it 1 star. Overall it looks cool. Play-wise, it's 1-star because a kid simply cannot play with it for 30 minutes before it breaks due to poor support for the rear-steering mechanism. (the strut breaks off into the compartment and fixing it a pain).

The weight should have been distributed over the panels with a long brick array.

If LEGO can custom mold parts for less significant force requirements, they can certainly do better job for the suspension of the vehicle.

Yea, it's a toy and what's the "big deal" right? Well, form and function should be balanaced and in this toy they are not.

Skip this one and get a different StarWars set.

Other nits:

There was no part list with part #s. For 1600+ parts, I expected to see a part list. The probability that some parts in your kit will be defective is higher and thus you need a part list.

No Jawa I know would tolerate this SandCrawler! ;-)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - best toy ever
I saw bad reviews on this product but none of them are true
it took me 1 day to build it and it is very steady
I use it a lot and my friends want it too!
best toy ever

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Lego Sandcrawler Review (I couldn't think of a better title! :(
I loved this set for many reasons:
1. The minifigures were absolutely fantastic,
2. The top middle section pops out, giving the builder better access to the insides, (which comes in real handy considering that this set requires more mantinence than it's worth)
Seriously, though, this set should only be built by accomplished Lego fanatics because of how big it is. 1,669 pieces is not for the faint-hearted. In closing, it is a really sweet set.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Brace yourself and the toy!
We were excited to get this toy because my son is really into all the droids and it comes with lots of them however it took 2 days to put this toy together because it kept falling apart. We had to rebuild the Sandcrawler twice because the bottom kept coming completely apart! My husband had to brace the whole bottom part with extra piece plates that we had from other sets. This is definitely not a "put together Christmas day" toy and if you don't have the time to put together all at once or a place to put pieces away from other children, you may want to skip this one until another time. Now that it is put together (for the time being), my son has been gently playing with it and he loves it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - details, fun, ways in, ways out
I'm guessing the burnt orange and baige bricks are the stains like in the movie. Cool. I like to pretend the the crane is supposed to suck them up, again like the movie. The crane also can put them through the hatch.(the one left or right from the center, it depends witch side the crawler is on.) The hatch in the middle lifts off to let the crane on top, or so you can lift out the workshop. Lifting it out is easy, and can easily go back in. The Jawas have lots of tools. There is also a driver's hatch and a knob to turn the wheel thingies. There is a door too. The fun thing is, you can take other set figures and make mischeif around the crawler. Luke is a character I need to get, but that's okay, I can get him. This set is okay to leave just on a desk, table or open shelf, it is more fun anyway. Go have fun!
