I bought this on Amazon about 5 weeks ago and am satisfied with it. The display is big enough to read the channel # from across the room. The remote is easy to use, although it works the volume but not the channels on my 8 yr old TV so I must have the VCR on and use it's tuner to watch TV (TV remote lost). the knob on the box, rather than buttons to rw and ff, is odd, but works.

After reading all of the good reviews about this VCR I decided to buy it. It had all of the features I wanted. It worked fine for about three hours and then failed to record. I dont think any of the VCR's made today are any good. I have determined that any thing made in CHINA is JUNK.

This was my first VCR purchase in over 10 years, and I got this as a second VCR for the bedroom. I have a panasonic pv-4555s which has been a great VCR. Prior to that, I have a 20 year old Montgomery Wards VCR, which does still actually work (difficulty with rewinding though). Now, this Sony I purchased on sale, and because it was a HI-fi stand alone VCR, which is no longer carried at many major stores (mainly Wal-mart and Target. I still believe in having seperate components since I have had run ins with tape hungry VCRs, and with a combo machine what do you do if it gets a case of the munchies.
First, the machine plays great, good quality and no problems i have seen with the autotracking. Again, has stero output for soumd, difficult to find in stand alone VCRs these days. Dopes feature replay, and commercial skip (which i have not used yet). Otherwise, it seems like a good VCR, easy set up and menus. The one thing that is an minor point is that when I hit pause, the player stutters forward a second or so, then unpause it goes another second or so, missing about 2-3 seconds of dialog. I am use to my other play pausing on cue and missing only a second or so of sound. Otherwise, this is a great player so far, Available at most shopko's and sears (also Nebraska furniture mart), as well as online here at user friendly Amazon.com.
One Note: there is a higher model of this machine for those who want to take the next step up. also, If your a junkie for great VCRs, look out for the Super -VHS vcrs wich feature S-video connections. they run about $50 more than this model.

Sony has decreased its quality on their VCRs. The video is about average for an inexpensive machine. The sound on this unit is poor in quality and sometimes does not record at all.
I have two other VCRs that I use. One is a sony and one is a Hitachi. You cannot record on the sony and playback on the other sony. There is no way to correct the tracking on either machine.

I really wanted a no frills VCR for watching videos, not recording or doing any thing fancy. This one was easy to install. The controls make sense and the remote is ugly and unwieldy but works just fine. I would buy again and recommend it completely.
