- The best RTS ive played
Ive played quite a few RTS (real time strategy games) includeing civilization, age of empires, age of mythogloy, empire earth etc. But out of all of them this is my favorite. You can choose to do a campaign, or a quick battle. The campign while intresting could of had a much better delivery. It much like risk where you have to conquer the world on a old world map, only much eaiser. Even if youve never played the game before id recomend playing it on easy (not easiest) or medium. And even then beating it can take about a week.

The qucik battles are fun to do. You can choose how many players you want the map size, terrian, and lots of other things. And once you create the settings of the game its saved to come back to and not have to choose everything again. The quick battles can take a few days if done with lots of countrys playing (5-8) inless you have hours to spend on the game in one day. Also quick battles can be harder if you select the diffuclty of your opponents and if you turn wonder victorys off (if wonder victorys is on it takes like 5-10 minutes for you to win if you build 3 wonders!!!???)

The graphics are good but nothing to be astonished about. The graphics really arent that good giveing rough images of the people and buildings. The graphics dont distract you from the gameplay though and the game really isnt based on graphics at all.

The sounds is nothing special much like the graphics. Although the explosions, bazooka shots, and gun fire dose sound kinda cool its clear not much effort went into sounds as its not needed for the game. The sounds get kind of annyoing since almost every thing you click on makes one. But again there not bad enough or loud enough to distract from the gameplay in any way.

Lastly the gameplay is excelent. The AI can be rather smart when you choose higher diffculties but if you choose easiest you might as well be playing a rock. The gameplay is fast enough to have a good game but not so fast you win in 2 minutes and not know what the heck happend. The only problem with the gameplay is if you use to many nuculear missles everyone loses because of "armagedon" and also that when youve reashearched all technologies you can research for super technologies that basicly make you win one makes it so no missles can land in your nation one makes everything created instantly (thats the one that makes you win) One makes you have no commerce level (lot of supplies) and the last one makes it when you capture a city its instantly yours. All these thing combined makes it almost impossible to lose.

All in all this game is defiently worth buying. All though it has a few cons its worth playing and if you take a brake from it for a month or to when you get tired of it you can come back and have fun playing it.

Yes, Rise of Nations is an AMAZING RTS endeavor that allows you to accomplish what every single gamer has desired at some point in his/her life...CONQUER THE WORLD!
Take Age of Empires, add to it some cutting-edge graphics, (a combination of 2D and 3D that look so GOOD that they threaten such games as Warcraft 3), add to it some unique units and hundreds of more diplomatic options, and what do ya have?
VOILA! welcome to the RoN.
There is NOTHING bad that can be said about the game itself, from graphics, to sound, to playability...this game makes itself known as a top competitor in all those places.
However, if there is one thing that COULD be missed...especially by fans of AoE...are the Walls! yes, the one thing that made AoE so popular was the option of constructing massive walls, iron gates (that could be raised) and all.
Although Walls would make this game perfect in every aspect, it does not take away from the AMAZING RTS it already is.
The game to end all games, RoN does more than just redefine an already overpopulated RTS genre.

- A good RTS but not great
After reading these reviews I was a little let down. This game is not extaordinarily complex nor does it really break new ground. It is essentially another blizzard game like warcraft or starcraft. Mine a large range of resources and upgrade your structures to create the best army you can.

The coolest part of this game is by upgrading your civilization into a more recent time, all your structures and armies get improved. Wooden farms become industrial metal units. Guys on horses become tanks. There is quite a wide range of possible units to create your army with. You can make nukes, aircraft carriers, knights, barbarians, all kinds of cool stuff.

The worst part of this game is that it went way overboard with the upgrades and resources. You literally spend the first 20 minutes of every game frantically upgrading every one of your structures while trying to mine all different kinds fo resources. Even worse, you need to build multiple cities to maximize the amount of upgrades and mining potential. Youll be upgrading your structures throughout the entire game. Ive had games last and hour and still havent even been able to upgrade everything. I would enjoy this game much more if there was only one resource to mine and one structure to select for upgrades.

Once your city is decently upgraded however, the battles are pretty nice. They lag more than I would like but its great seeing a city nuked, or sending planes over a base, or invading a town with barbarians.

If your a fan of RTS' you should check it out, but its not as fun as Yuris Revenge, Starcraft or Warcraft3.

Very nice game. I played all versions of the AoE and AoM and found this game is much better. If you are AoE fans, this game won't disappoint you.
