- Great add on mods available and multiplayer!
Freelancer is a fantastic game which includes all aspects of space gaming. Fighting, trade, exploration, mining and politics. There are several add on modifications for this game available that can be downloaded for free and used with the help of Freelancer Mod Manager program which is also downloadable for free. There are several mods that allow open single player with different options so you don't have to follow the story line. Their are mods that also include new ships, new weapons and power ups as well as new systems and trade goods. The online Freelancer gaming community is fantastic and there are numerous FREE servers to play on with different custom mod versions of the game that add a lot to the variety and excitement of game play. I play on the Slammers server which currently runs the Discovery 4.81 mod in conjunction with the Nemesis Booster Pack. Most servers also run a forum site for their players. - THE BEST GAME KNOWN TO MAN
This game is absolutely amazing! I have been playing it ever since it was released and I still find myself sometimes playing around 5 hours a day. Other games have come out claiming to be as good or better then Freelancer, but they are not, in my opinion. I was going to buy Darkstar 1 but with work, school, biking, and playing Freelancer I just don't have time to buy any other game.

One word of caution though, if you get this game be sure to get a mod. There are many many mods for the game, and all of them add a lot to the game, a lot which is needed. I personally play the evolutions mod and a little of the Crossfire mod and both are good.

This game, along with a mod, always gives me something to do. Now I am not saying the original is bad, it is just the original only lets you fly around 30-40 ships and none of them are capital ships and I am a capital ship person. Also if you play as much as I do you need more then the fifty or so systems to fly around in. I mean it is pretty bad when I can look at every Freelancer screenshot and know exactly what system/planet/base/ship is in the screenshot.

The multiplayer in this game is great, and free! I have a few thousand hours of playing just in one server alone. Best of all, there is still so so very much that I can do yet, and if you are a gamer you know that is saying a lot. In many games you couldn't play that long and there still be some new and exciting things for you to do.

I could go on and on for hours about how great this is, but I need to get to work so I can get done early and come back home and play Freelancer for a few more hours, and I am serious about that. I play this game all the time. I play freelancer while I am eating, doing homework, and even while riding an exercise bike. It is that good of a game, and it is addictive.

P.S. For the record I am not a fat person. I love this game but don't neglect exercise. If you don't believe me you can just ask the people who came across the finish line after me during the one hundred mile bike ride I completed. You can love a video game, but don't become fat playing it, and with Freelancer being that great of a game it will be especially hard to tear yourself away from it and go on a nice short 50-60 mile bike ride, or whatever kind of exercise you prefer.

- The best space game I've ever played!
I have been playing Freelancer for a looong time now,and it still hold appeal to me.This is the easiest space game to control I have ever played.Note I said control,not anythin else.As you advance it gets tougher to survive the fights.And the multiplayer is great too.This game has a very nice community that is happy to help new players.I'd recomend checking out [...] for the latest mods and server news.This was the best buy of games that I have ever made.I hope to see you on the servers.

- Great, addictive game... But constrictive
This is the best game I've ever played, It has great graphics for it's age, it's very open-ended but a lot of it is similar, your character only says the same things over and over and the side-missions are all alike while not being exactly the same. It's a great game if you want to just keep going and explore a universe. I find myself coming back to this game over and over again because it just appeals to all my various interests, trading/economy, exploration, blowing things up, and law.

I can get around most of the faults in the game but I just wish there was an option to skip the storyline. I have a harddrive failure and it erases all my games and having to do the entire storyline over again gets annoying. It's fun the 5 times but after that you're basically just going through the motions which can still be fun but it's not something I want to do over and over.

All-in-all it's a fun game that you can play for years without getting bored of but with downsides.

While most gamers (including myself) have become a bit jaded with all the bells and whistles out there, all the convoluted plots, etc....sometimes you just want a game that is fun, easy to use and play, that isn't so technical and pissy that you get a bug if you look at it the wrong way. This is that game. It's online options are limited, and it's storyline is simple but not boring. The ease of use with the controls and the sheer fun of playing a dogfight style space shooter through GORGEOUS spacescapes makes this game one of the best of it's kind currently. It's a game I've finished several times and still find myself coming back to. Unlike many games, this one is still playable after you win the main story. My only regret here is that there isn't more of it, of that it isn't likely to receive a sequel. It'd sure get my vote if it did. For simple fun, buy this game.
