Grand Theft Auto 3

Domain Name Com's - : Grand Theft Auto 3

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great as a stress reliever
Wonderful game, one of the best I have ever played, a far, FAR step up from GTA2. Lets list the ways:

1. Fully realized simulated 3D city
2. Over 50 different vehicles from boats to sports cars
3. Tons of characters ...BR>4. More than one view (birds-eye view of GTA2 gave me a headache)
5. Lots of missions and side-quests you can do that seem fairly logical (except snipeing the Don of the Sicilian from a rooftop 20ft away from the nightclub he is in)
AND LOTS MORE

I do recomend this for PC though because it has advanced graphics, sound, you can play your own music, load your own skins, THERE WILL BE UPDATES TO FIX BUGS, ect ect.
I have to recomend this to gamers of all kinds because of its truley addictive gameplay,... There may be some parts that are not suitable for 10 year olds (i.e. you can pick up ladies of the night) but all-in-all its a must buy for all great gamers!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - the difinitive game of the past few years
chances are you know this game. i have yet to meet a person who hasnt played or watched someone play this game. nothing short of amazing. perfect combination of style and action with a hint of comedy around the edges. sure, its been attacked for its supposedly very high violence levels (i remember seeing montel williams flipping out on TV because you can kill a hooker) but its really not much worse than any other violent game.

if this game is reviewed with vice city in mind, the rating might go down. vice city is superior. but gta3 is the original, and if viewed on its own as the first, it is nothing short of amazing.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I have it, But need joystick first
I will write a more detailed review, after I get one.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Unbelievably Fun
At my age and comfort level it is unlikely that I will ever find myself in the position of being chased by three police cars and a helicopter while doing about 130mph down the freeway, and with rock and roll blasting in my ears. It probably isn't going to happen. But thanks to this delightful, challenging and often hilarious game, I now have a general idea of how, er, exciting this type of activity might be.

My goodness, this game is a blast. The premise is that you are a small-time hoodlum in the baddest part of the baddest town in the bad ole US of A. Your job is to become the baddest of the bad. For me, this took a little getting used to. At the beginning for example, I would actually wait for pedestrians to cross the street and even stopped at red lights. It didn't take long to throw those law-abiding inclinations out the window. Those kinds of notions need to be tossed right out.

You start off doing small jobs for small bosses, and as you become more successful, bigger jobs for bigger bosses. The first few missions are simply to drive people places, which is good, because it allows you to learn to drive (and steal) cars, and to become familiar with the city. (Plus, it helps to know that all of the cars are different in their speed, the way they handle, and in their destructibility.) As time goes by, your jobs encompass more complex entrepreneurial pursuits such as stealing things; high-jacking armored cars; whacking enemies with guns, grenades, cars and flamethrowers; blowing things up; and, eventually, double-crossing everyone. To complicate matters, you have to deal with the police, who, corrupt as they are, still can't abide the mayhem you are required to cause and come after you big time. By far, they are your most dangerous enemy, which, I know, sounds awful, but remember: you are a BAD guy.

The missions are varied and routinely lead into heart-pounding, tense excitement. Most require skill with cars and weapons, but there is a real cerebral element also. There is usually more than one solution, and you have to think. For example, in one of the missions, you have to knock off a mafia chief. First, you have to get to his area in a limited amount of time Once there, you have about a five second window of opportunity to get him: he comes out of a building, is surrounded by armed goons, and immediately gets into a bulletproof car. What to do? Eventually, I got him with a sniper rifle from a storefront. But on another try I tossed a grenade at him from a roof across the street. Another time I let him get in his car and attempted to run him off the road, but this was unsuccessful. This was not as easy as it sounds. I think I had to replay it about twenty times--usually the goons got me--before getting him.

And that's another great thing. Although many of these missions are very difficult, you never have to get stuck on one while waiting for your brain to kick in. There are so many other things to do. Steal a police car and run a vigilante mission, for example. Or an ambulance mission. Or taxi, or fire. Or drive around and look for hidden packages. All of these are very fun, and even better, after running a certain amount of them, give you big advantages in either health, weapons, or money. In fact, I would recommend doing these side missions first: you will be much better equipped to face the more difficult boss missions.

The look of the game is really amazing. It is a full, functioning, large, bustling city, with everything in it a city should have. Elevated trains, subways, (both of which you can ride), tunnels, bridges, you name it. You look up sometimes and see the moon, or in the distance, a jet taking off. I walked up to the top of a large hill in Shoreside Vale and looked across the river at the other boroughs, and oh my goodness, the whole thing was laid out before me, stunning and realistically beautiful.

And the tone of the game is right, too. Yes, it's a little violent, but cartoonishly so, and often with tongue placed firmly in cheek. There's really no way anybody should be offended by this. I mean, c'mon: citizens armed with pistols and baseball bats roam the streets, the police are brazenly corrupt, your chances of being run over by an ambulance are better than your being saved by one, and your reward for running a certain amount of fire missions is . . . a flamethrower. The end of the game, you walking away--briefly--with your prattling girlfriend, is an absolute classic, and again brought the familiar grin to my face.

There are eight radio stations to choose from while you're driving around. Some of the music is okay, but what is really hilarious is the commentary and commercials in between. I especially love the talk radio guy, Lazlow, and his nut-case guests, who regularly threaten to tear the tongue out of his head, or make him intimately acquainted with what the inside of his brains look like. It is really funny stuff, and it must have been an absolute riot creating it. The amount of attention they paid to this--a minor aspect of the game--is very telling.

This game is a blast, an absolute, unqualified blast, and as fun as anything out there. You can even keep playing after all the missions are done, but, sadly, after getting my wanted level to six, stealing a tank, and realizing that there was nothing anybody could do about it, I knew I had reached the end. But, I guess there's another one out there. God help me.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Bought, Shoot, Hooked
I first bought this game for the PC having no idea about the game. When I hit some one with the baseball bat, I was shocked; I couldn't believe you could just run around and kill people. As harsh as that sounds, it's just a game, and a fun one at that. The missions are really good, and it seems that every inch of land has some use to it. The do-what-ever-you-want style game play is very cool. One of the best features of this game is the gang fights, they just randomly occur when the two different gang members see each other, and from then it's an all out war.

The plot of the game is that you were robbing a bank with your girlfriend and when you get the loot and are about to escape she shoots you. You end up going to jail, but on the way their some gang members stop your convoy and take one of the members back and blow up some of the bridge your on. You and another guy named 8-ball grab a car and he tells you to drive to a safe house, were you can store one car and were you can save your game, and get a baseball bat. After you get to the safe house 8-ball tells you to go to this one guy's club named Luigi, and Luigi gives you a job, and your Mob work begins, and the story unfolds.

The great thing about this game is the twists and turns, one minute this is going on the next this is. I recommend this game if you about 13 years old and you like cars, guns, and fast paced game play. Grand Theft Auto III is great and I can't wait for Grand Theft Auto IV to come out.
