- A great opportunity lost
What a shame. Great idea, great concept, but so poorly delivered. This is not a patch on Commandos 2 and it lacks everything that made Commandos 2 so good. The characters are dull and the games leads you rather then allowing you to direct the flow of the game.
Commandos 2 took me best part of a month and I enjoyed every minute of it, as a Trek fan I looked forward to this one but I finished it easily in two days and was sadly bored for most of it. Avoid.

- Could Have Been Better
Away Team could have been much better. It didn't seem to stand out from all the other simulator type games out there. I was expecting more, but I was a little dissapointed.

The graphics are mediorcre and the sound and instruction a little confusing as you play. A little predictable too. I guess I was a little disappointed based on all the other simulator type games I have already.

- Excellent Game! A Must for Star Trek and Strategy Fans!
This is a wonderful game. The gameplay is spectacular, the controls are easy to learn and use, and the screen layout and look are stupendous. This is one of my favorite Star Trek games out there. It provides hours of challenging and exciting fun. The characters are intelligent and witty. Also, be on the lookout for some of the crew of the enterprise (NCC-1701D that is).

- Star Trek Away Team - Takes the Fun "Away"
This game is not as interesting and fun as I thought it would be. For those players who are familiar with Commandos - This game is very similar. The character development is terrible. Characters are driven in the game to only what piece of equipment (Sniper Rifles, Tricorders, or Vulcan mind melds) they are carrying. You cannot chose your favorite character for every mission. Missions are based upon what character has what piece of equipment. The graphics and sound are decent.
Gameplay = 7/10

Graphics = 6/10

- Could have been fun but...
This was a game that had a huge amount of potential and failed miserably. In most of these squad-based games there is at least a little bit of roleplaying. In this game there is none--character development is non-existent, and given the mission requirements, your picks among the pre-generated characters are often extremely limited.

The gameplay is, likewise, monotonous. It seems fun for the first few missions but then you realize that it's the same thing over and over again. After about the tenth mission I was bored out of my skull, and my willpower failed near the 13th mission and I just stopped playing.

Shortly after I gave up in disgust I picked up Fallout Tactics. If you are considering getting a game in the squad-based tactics genre get that one. You get exceptional control over character development (in fact, the characters actually develop as the game goes along, unlike those in Away Team!), throughout the entire game you get access to new weapons and technology (which means that your tactics have to change as you progress) and the missions themselves are a lot more fun!

To sum up. Away team stinks. Badly. If I could have given it no stars I would have. Spend your money on Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel instead.
