Domain Name Com's - Software : Microsoft FrontPage 2000

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very easy to use and affordable!
This program is incredibly easy to use and is so affordable, you may do a double take at the price. For those who say HTML what? This is the best solution I have found so far. Yes, you can view the HTML and you may even get to copy and paste some into the program, however, most likely the only thing you will need to deal with is the Meta Tags, which can be done after you have created your pages. If you look in the HTML view you will see the top portion of each page is basically the same. This information will help the search engines find you once you are listed. I am working on that next!

The beauty of this program is once you create your Web site, you can launch it with ease. You will be flying on the Web in no time. You can start with just one page and build more as you need them, or you can build an entire site, test it out and then launch. You do need to be online and have a domain name set up with your provider even before you start building. Those are the first two steps.

While working in this program, there are various ways you can view your site. There are three areas which will be open and also three options for viewing each page. On the far left you have a vertical column of icons:

Page: This view shows the page you are physically working on. Folder: Helps you view and organize all of your files and folders. Reports: Shows the status of your files. Navigation: Shows a pictorial representation of your site. Hyperlinks: Shows page links between pages. Tasks: This is a list of jobs you create for yourself.

Then you will see three tabs at the base of your Web page:

Normal: This is the view in which you will create your Web pages.

HTML: This shows things like, and other such HTML.

Preview: This shows you what the page will sort of look like. Don't rely on this, it is better to go to the main preview option in the browser.

There are a few basic things you should know before diving into this program. The main choice is going to be whether you are going to design the pages yourself as I did, or you are going to go with a template. If I had to do it over again, and had found a template I liked, that would be the way to go. This program has them if you want to use them. I chose to start with a blank page and build it as I went along.

1. First create a new Web by clicking File, New, Web.

2. Create a page simply by clicking File, New, Page.

3. NEVER use capital letters or spaces in your page names. They should look like this: windows_page_1 That is it! 4. When you have created one page, copy and paste it to the new page, erase the information you don't need and then type in the information you want on the new page.

5. Learn how to hyperlink: Type a word, highlight it and then go to Insert, Hyperlink, then choose a page on the list (you must have at least two pages or you will have to link externally). This will link the word to a page. To link a word outside of the page, type in the Web site name.

6. You can preview the whole Web site in the browser.

7. When working in "Normal" view, you can also choose to reveal the "tags." This will help you to see hidden items in your pages. You can then remove extra spaces, etc.

8. When your site is ready to launch, make sure you view the site in "Report" view. You can use the spell check to search a page or the entire Web site.

9. Adding graphics is about as easy as copying them and pasting them.

10. Before opening this program, get online. You can then test the links as you make them. To do this in normal view you must hold down Ctrl and then click on the hyperlink using the mouse. In preview, all you need is the mouse.

11. To make a background I also opened up a page on my site and pasted a square of color from a picture I took. Then I simply right clicked on my mouse, clicked on background and selected that picture from the list. The background magically became blue and I guess it just happened. You could choose any picture or pattern for the background you want. Just keep it consistent and make sure people can read the type.

I chose to place "tables" on each page. You simply add a table just like in a Word document and you can make the borders color or invisible. This is handy for organizing things on pages when you don't want a border. Once you have your tables in place you can select different background colors, borders, etc. Play around with this feature until you get what you are looking for. This can all be done by highlighting the table and then right clicking on your mouse to choose either "table properties" or "cell properties." You can create various effects.

Are you ready yet? Jump in, don't worry but do take with you a sense of determination and a very open mind. Take seriously every suggestion other Webmasters give you. I think if I could get on the Web, create a site and do it all in five months, then you can too. Trust me on this!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great product!
I use FrontPage to create all my webpages. Not only has it helped me learn HTML but it has given me confidence to branch out to other areas like graphic design. If you're looking for a program to help you make a professional webpage, this is the one! It's great for beginners and more advanced webmasters!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good to learn with but mirror image of 97'
This is and always has been the best and easiest program to create websites. Its really easy to learn and publish websites. It cuts HTML completely out of the picture. But, when compared to the 97' version its a mirror image. Hardley any changes were made. If I were to do it all over again. I would buy the cheapest version. For the simple fact... Its cheaper.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - A dismal excuse for an upgrade
I uninstalled this thing right away. I am going back to FP 98. FP 2000 wants to take over every aspect of your web site. Uploading is a nightmare. They took out the good parts of 98 and added some bells and whistles and called it an upgrade. I hope I can get my money back. If not, it's going on ebay. I will start looking into other editors, not MS though until they get a clue.
