Star Trek: Starship Creator Deluxe

Domain Name Com's - : Star Trek: Starship Creator Deluxe

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - As good as I expected - no real complaints here.
I did a minimum amount of research before buying this game, so there were really no unpleasent surprises. It works just as the promotional information says it does.

I was aware that the game was out for a while before I got it. The newest version, "Warp II", is already out, but it doesn't offer as many ships, so I decided on the older version.

I am an on-line gamer, too, and a big Star Trek fan, but I bought this mostly for the "make your own starship" aspect and not the "gaming" aspect. As far as I am concerned, the starship creation part rocks and the gaming portion is a bonus way to see how your ship performs. If you buy, though, don't forget to get the patch on-line.

This version of the game allows you to import a digital picture of anyone you want and create a character out of them to crew your ships. That is very cool, and the only thing I really would want out of the new "Warp II" version is the ability to edit those pictures so that your subject appears to be in a Starfleet uniform -- if it works well. Not enough to make me want to run out and get it, so in the meantime I will enjoy "Creator Deluxe" and wait for "Warp II" to go to the bargain bin.

The only reason I did not give this game 5 stars is because I thought the producers could have put a little more into the graphics and animation. Maybe even a little more than "a little more", but all in all, I really liked it.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Not Much Fun
= Not the fun it claims to be!
Reviewer: auntyjack from LaVergne, TN USA
As an incurable Trekker who loves all things Star Trek I purchased this game thinking it would be lots of fun to play, but found it extrememly limiting. One has to be quite computer savvy to close applications to get it to work marginally faster than snail pace. Although I have a brand new computer with a great processor, large hard drive and lots of memory and all the 'bells and whistles' I found this game 'eats' so much memory that it takes forever to get your ship across the quadrant. It certainly is a game where you can cook dinner, do the laundry and shop for groceries while your ship and crew fly the 'deep space' mission and still arrive back in time to make the important decisions about where you're going to send the crew next. The 'still' graphics are okay but the 'animation'is pitiful. The one great feature is the sound effects and the Star Trek music. After you've run through all the pre-set missions there's 'nothing new on the horizon'. I'm not into programming so that was the end of the game as I couldn't compose my own missions. I found it was a nighmare trying to 'make' my own crew by importing images and bios and finally gave up in frustration. There's no scope for upgrading your ship beyond the 'default' specifications so some missions are doomed to be failures from the start as not all 'fleet' ships are capable of successfully completing all the missions. Once the missions are complete (flown) there's only one word I can think of to describe this game ... Boring!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A Good game if you know how to use it
This may not be a fast pased game. But it is worth the money. I'd say this is a game for any one who can tell conversationly what an inertial dampening system is. This game is a good way to explore teck of Trek. Along wit the diversity of systems is the ability to pock the bridge crew with alot of charecters in the shows or those who are not From Kirk to Samantha Wildman. The missions are a bit slow pased but interact with what systems that you choose. Examle: in one mission you try to convince an ambassador to join the Federation but is claustrapobic and escapes in a shuttle which will make you fail unless you use tractor beams. but the whole inciden is avoided with a holodeck. I for one enjoy it and hope you do to.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Some fun, but not enough
As with most of the other reviewers, I too thought this game to be a great concept, and, as with most of the other reviewers, I too was wrong. Sure, you can design your own star ship, but you are unable to take the saucer from the Enterprise and put it on the Voyager. You can't take the Defiant and put some HUGE nacells on it just so that it can go fast. Really, the thing you get to customize most is the interior. You see, you build the ship, name it, and, because you're the Admiral, pick your crew and send her on a mission. The mission is completely automated. Another downside is that the mission very nearly take real-time. So, a mission could take you all day to work through, meanwhile, you're just sitting their watching the logs pop up saying they arrived at coordinates such-and-such without giving them your input usually. Anyway, you wina mission, get more money, and buy new lasers, or torpedoes, or shields. You just buy them, you don't even place them internally. Also, certain ships have certain systems and available crews. For example, build the Voyager and you can't put the original Enterprise crew on her. Another example would be to build the original Enterprise and can't put Holodecks on it. It's easy to cheat in the game too. All you need to do to cheat is export your ship to somewhere in your computer(the game has the ability to export and import ships), and import it then sell it for money. Repeat until you have all the money you want. Then go and make the perfect ship. If you tried to play through the missions to get the money, you'd be there for YEARS. You get maybe, maybe, a good amount on a mission, but now your ships is damaged and you need to purchase repairs. Bye-bye money. Really the game is not worth it. If you have your heart set on it, go ahead and buy it. But if you're unsure, don't bother, it's a waste. This game is a waste of time, money, and memory on the computer.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - This game makes all other Star Trek Games look bad.
I bought this game thinking it would be cool, Design your own ships and take em out for a spin, Not the case! I could do a better job using MS Paint, Major Dispointment! Dont waste your money here, If you looking for a Star Trek game try Starfleet Command, It rocks.
