- Shoddy Worksmanship?
I got a these for my birthday (August) and now in November they are broken. The headset itself was fine, it fit comfortably on my head and didnt bother my ears at all.
However, the wire has this big thing right in the middle for holding the batteries for sound cancellation, which puts an odd weight onto the left side of your head, as there isnt a wire running to the right headphone. Ontop of that the wire that connects the plug to the battery carrier somehow got twisted, and now has come entirely off, naturally making the headphones useless. At $50 you'd expect a product to last more than 3 months.

- Great price to performance ratio
As someone that has tried the more expensive Bose noise cancelling headphones, I can honestly say that the Maxell NC-II are well worth the money. I recently wore these headphones with relatively high expectations, and feel that they performed well for the money spent.

You can tell that these headphones feel/appear made inexpensively - lots of plastic components. Take care of them, and they should last. Don't forget to grab a couple AAA batteries, as they are not included.

I'm very impressed with these headphones; they're isolating, and have just as good sound clearness and audible range as the Koss KSC50(?) sportclips I used to have (no longer in production), and the Aiwa HP-X223 headphones-- and it sounds great without having to set an equalizer setting in my iPod. I also can't hear any hiss from the noise cancellation feature.

i was doing some research for some good headphoens to use to listen to music when i'm relaxing or studying and i was skeptical about this at first because no one had ever commented on it before. i first bought sony monitor headphones and they HURT! i just put them on and had to take them off right away and didn't even try it with music on... then i shopped around and figured that maxwell headphones shouldn't be that bad because my college doesn't sell a variety of headphones and only sell the ones that actually sell and maxwell's were one of them. i went to staples to get some supplies and actually saw ONE maxwell headphones left and they were also only priced for a total of $30 and so i decided to give it a try. when i took it out and tried it first before the music, it was really comfortable! when the music, it really has a nice sound and does drown out the noise around you EVEN WITH/ WITHOUT the batteries for the noise cancellation. i would recommend this pair of headphones to anybody who loves a bargain and also comfort and sound w/o the hinderance of performance just for the price. it even is compact and includes a pouch for it! how convenient especially since it also includes plugs for the airplane...for anyone who needs to travel...

- HP-NCII - Good only for certain applications
I read other people about Maxell HP-NC1 and decided to buy HP-NCII ($29.99). Here're the short list of what I have tested.
a/ Normal/Quite environment - When the noise cancelling (NC)is on, the white noise is quite noticeable and there's no effect to other people talks. I feel better listening to the music with the NC off.
b/ Snow blower and lawn mower - At slow speed setting, there's little different when the NC is on or off. But at high speed setting, the NC will block off the loud noise level significantly; the noise level coming through is about the same as the slow speed setting.
c/ Vacuum machine (12Amp) - there's no effect to the vacuum machine's whistling noise.
