Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This Is Still One of My Very Favorite Games!
I haven't played Tomb Raider 1 in a long time but a month or so ago I found it at a used cd store and bought it. I just finished the game and am still thrilled at how exciting and tough this game still is. The plot is interesting enough for you to continue caring for the story and Lara Croft makes a fun character to use to get to your next destination. She is strong, knows how to carry her weapons, jump great heights and is truly fearless when it comes to dinosaurs, bad guys and even messed up creatures she meets up with in the end. You have to constantly be kept on your toes throughout the game and the settings themselves are yes very old compared to nowadays improvements but for back then were well done and even nowadays not bad at least to me. This game is a fun challenge and I recommend it to anyone interested in adventure games for Lara will take you on great journeys in this game. My favorite is where she is facing a Sphinx- like statue- now that was a fun level.
Tomb Raider is one of the greatest storylines ever created and that is why it is so popular even nowadays. The older stuff is better though, aka like 1- 4 of the Tomb Raider series is the best to me- everything after 4 seems to have gone downhill. Angel of Darkness honestly I couldn't even finish it was so bad. So take my advice and try out the older version of Tomb Raiders first, they are much better and more exciting.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The ORIGINAL derivative Indiana Jones ripoff
OH YES....this game is what it's all about. Sure, it looks totally archaic now with its primitive low-polygon 3D (cf. Lara's Madonna-style pyramid breasts) and jerky low frame rate - BUT WHO CARES. "Tomb Raider" was one of the first fully-realized 3D games, with huge environments and a camera that lets you explore them fully - something next-gen developers still seem to have a problem with sometimes - and, of course, best of all, an action hero that players across the board could instantly connect with. Yes, Lara Croft - men want her, women want to be her...lol. Forget about her later misadventures on celluloid and (worst of all) the PS2 platform. Even on the PS1, all the new innovations in graphics and AI that cropped up in subsequent TR installments couldn't improve upon the originality of gameplay you have here in the debut. The puzzles, the secrets, the at-times relentless action, this game has it all.

Much like Indiana Jones, we first encounter Lara as she explores some ruins in South America - allegedly the village of Vilcabamba, an actual archeological site in Ecuador, although as it appears in the game it's more of a generic hotch-pot of pre-Columbian art and architecture. Of course you have the rolling ball traps everywhere, and of course she eventually finds a golden idol - more nods to Indy. Later she explores Las Vegas versions of Rome and Egypt, slaughtering more endangered species in the process than are even left on the planet (PETA just loved this game) before proceeding to - where else? - Atlantis, which is naturally swarming with freakish and bloodthirsty mutants. All this because she's in search of an artifact whose magical powers, if in the wrong hands, could destroy the world, or something.

It's easy to punch holes in the ridiculous plot, but that doesn't affect the entertainment value - again just like with Indy, you know it's stupid, but you're more than willing to suspend disbelief just to go along with the wild ride. Getting through the levels is not always easy; you'll need to sharpen both your combat and puzzle-solving skills. There's also a lot of replay value owing to the oftentimes diabolically-hidden "secrets," which usually contain caches of weapons and the infamous "medi-paks."

Play this game - it's almost like a cool retro thing to do now - and forget about everything that came after. They have a new TR in the works now but it's got a lot of bad karma to overcome...so far nothing has matched this original masterpiece.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Classic Game
This game entertained me for hours when it first came out oh so many years ago! I was deeply enthralled, and soon my dad became obsessed as well. We would spend hour upon hour playing it! My mom was fine with it, but other jealous mothers would ask her if she wasn't even the least bit worried that Lara was so attractive, and has such big... assets. She was great, alright, but the game was just as fun. Many different levels provide for awesome gameplay. My only complaint is the annoying save crystals. Yeah, those are horrible. But overall it's a really fun game! Better than most of the recent Tomb Raider games, but TR3 is probably my favorite! It's a classic, buy it! You won't regret it. ENJOY!!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Original Playstation classic
God, it was ages ago when I last played the original "Tomb Raider". The first time I played it, maybe six years ago, I was amazed and frightened. I was frightened because of the very first level. You know, the awry music, dark caves, and vicious bats, wolves and bears. That will always be my first memory of playing "Tomb Raider". Even though it's dated now, it still lives up to its name despite several sequels and dissapointing movies.

What really made this game famous, and made Playstaion fun, was the goddess Lara Croft. She's absolutely gorgeous! You play the adventrous archaeologist in a quest to recover an ancient artifact; Croft travels the world in style, from Peru to Egypt and to the lost city of Atlantis.

I think that's the story for the game. I lost track since I haven't played this game for awhile. But what was original about this game wasn't really Lara's beauty, it was the gameplay. The gamer has to solve complexed puzzles, battle hard enemies(including dinosaurs!) and go through hidden rooms and collect treasures from ancient cities.

There is also a good amount of weapons for Lara, including her trademark dual pistols. There is also some health packs in case she gets hurt, in fact she gets hurt alot! No human being could ever do the things she does! The very physical Lara jumps impossible feats, does handstands and survives in very dangerous situations. She's a female Indiana Jones!

Anyway, "Tomb Raider" is an entertaining game. It has good graphics, solid gameplay, and Lara Croft is hot! But the "Tomb Raider" series has lost track of its self. The gameplay is all ready becoming old, and its lack of innovation hasn't made gamers happy. Including myself. Only part 2 is the best sequel. But the original game that made Lara Croft famous is a must own game for every classic game collection.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Lara Croft is a hot babe!
Ok, sounds perveted. It may be weird to have a crush on the sexy, adventurous, and alluring Lara Croft, but many other people do too.

Anyway, this is it. The first "Tomb Raider" game. It has classic written all over it. Despite being dated, and encountering countless predecessors, sequels and dissapointing movies the game manages to have to a strong following and is considered to best game of them all.

It was orginal back then, where archaeologist Lara Croft, a female Indiana Jones, is called upon to use her intelligence, amazing physical skills, and her big guns to solve complexed and ancient puzzles, battle hard enemies and travel the whole world in style. I forget the storyline, since I haven't played this game in ages, but it's good. You should ask my mom, who played and beat every "Tomb Raider" game(Sorry mom). I'm not kidding! She did! The graphics are surprisingly good to look at, as well as the hard puzzles to solve(which made it famous to play) and the fun movie scenes. Check out the dinosaur too in this game. it's a blast!

Anyway, a highly reccomended game. But I liked "Tomb Raider 2" way better then this one.
