The Brother MFC-9840CDW Color Laser Multi-Function Center with Wireless Networking is the ultimate color laser all-in-one device with superior quality color laser printing, faxing, copying, and scanning. The MFC has built-in wired and wireless networking options that let you print, scan, or send faxes wirelessly via 802.11b/g or Ethernet. The printer can also be connected locally to a single computer via USB. The laser printing technology offers a resolution up to 2400 x 600 dpi and can print at a maximum speed of 21 ppm in both monochrome and black and white. The printer can handle a variety of paper sizes including letterhead, letter, and legal, as well as envelopes. The standard paper tray holds 250 sheets and an optional tray can hold 500 sheets. With the built-in duplexer, the printer can do two-sided printing, saving paper, and the printer supports the PCL-6 and BR-Script 3 printer languages.

The copier works without a PC and has a maximum copy speed of 17 cpm black and color. An automatic document feeder tray has a capacity of 50 pages for fast copying of multiple pages. The copier can scale documents from 25 to 400 percent of the original. The scanner has an optical scan resolution of 1200 x 2400 dpi at a 48-bit color depth. Included is Scansoft PaperPort SE with OCR for Windows and Presto! PageManager for Mac, making it easy to organize your scanned pages and convert them into editable documents. - Best printer I ever had
I just got the wireless set up on the printer yesterday. I've had many, many high-powered printers in the last twenty years but this is the best one I ever had. If you don't want it to go to sleep so fast, you can reset the amount of time for it to stay on. The print quality is superb, it's fast and I love it.

I am very disappointed with color printing and color copying. There is no quality in color printing. I can see yellow or blue color on the background of the paper, and color combinations are also bad. As I am not a technical person, I usually use printer in default settings. In Default settings, it does not print colors properly. Also, does not copy properly in color. Dark colors look in blue. I have to go outside to do color printing or copying nd spend more money. I bought the Brother MFC-9840cdw laser printer for its duplex printing and color capabilities, and also because I read that it works both in the PC and Mac platforms. I have an IMac, but I have Parellels Desktop 3.0 for Mac installed so I can run Windows XP and all the usual business applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access,...).

When one considers the cost of a commercial copier, this shows it's value. It is as quick as reported, makes excellent copies and prints fine reports. There is some page curl but this has not been a reason not to buy this. If you are doing alot of commercial fliers, portfolios etc, you might find this curl to be annoying. Photos turn out more than adequate for the average consumer. I did not notice any real difference between this and an ink jet on photo paper but I have an untrained eye in this area. ... Read More

- Returning my first Brother printer purchase in 2 days! Back to reliable HP which I used for 20 years.
The Brother MFC-9840cdw Color Laser Multi-Function Center with Wireless Interface and Duplex does not print web pages or emails with graphics. It superimposes words over images, truncates images, omits images, and adds numerous line feeds which leads to occasionally 14 pages being printed instead of 2. I tried the most basic pages - my.yahoo.com, www.bbc.com. I'm connected using the wireless interface. I haven't tried using the USB interface since I purchased it for wireless functionality.
