- Only get this if you want your room brightly lit all night
Be aware that this product is not as pictured, it is not a black display it is incandescent blue that is so bright it casts shadows. My husband can sleep through anything but this searchlight of a display bothered him. The big warning is that when I called about it they said others had complained about the misrepresentation in the photo on the web site and on the box (he volunteered that he had no idea where that pic came from since it was never an option) yet the company doesn't see it fit to change. ... I bought the 820HD and it will not receive an FM stations at all. I called Cambridge to get a replacement, but they forwarded my contact and order information to another company and told me the other company would contact me later. They would not ship out replacement. They must be having big problems with 820HD. So much for the 30 day no hassle money back guarantee.

The Soundworks 820 HD is an excellent radio, with some not insignificant reservations.

PRO: Attractive radio with excellent sound quality, particularly on FM. HD radio offers two or three (typically) alternative channels of music, which means that a marginal main channel type of music may be supplemented with an excellent alternative channel.

- Great table-top radio, not great as alarm clock
I won't reiterate what other people have said about this clock radio -- it's a fine, great sounding, and good -looking HD radio that's easy to use.

The problem is it doesn't make a good alarm clock for your bedside for the following reasons:

- the light from the display is far too bright even at it's lowest setting, and not user-adjustable (it uses an ambient light sensor)

- if you forget to turn off your radio and leave it in AUX mode, the alarm will not wake you ... Read More

A few radio stations in my area have HD radio signals. To receive these signals I decided to purchase the Cambridge Soundworks radio based on my reading of the previous Amazon reviews, which emphasized the fine sound, decent signal reception, and sub-par functionality as a alarm clock / clock radio. Since I intended to use the radio as a tabletop radio rather than as an alarm clock, the poor performance of the alarm features was not a concern.
