Sony includes the Cyberlink software suite, which authors BD and DVD discs, while also offering general disc burning for Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and CD. The software works with Windows XP and Windows 2000 PCs.

Rating: - works perfectly
This drive works perfectly. One reviewer said that the drive does not play HD movies. That is absolutely incorrect. The only reason that he can't watch HD movies is because is doesn't have the necessary SOFTWARE to play HD movies. He does have the necessary drive however.... All he needs to do is get the software. Unfortunately Windows Media software (even on Windows 7) doesn't play Blu-ray. Thus, you will need to get software from a vendor such as Corel. Windows 7 will allow you to copy movies and data to Blu-ray which is super-nice. This drive is truly a great drive! Oh, by the way, this drive has an Atapi output rather than a SATA output, so make sure it will work with your computer. :)

I bought this unit 2 years ago and I can tell you that this unit works great. It comes with cyberlink software that gives you the ability to convert your movies and data files on to blu ray discs. You can burn BD-R and BD-RE 25 and 50GB discs. I use it mostly though for burning my x-box 360 games since BD discs are still a little too pricey right now. I highly recommend getting one as soon as they become more affordable.

Rating: - make sure to upgrade software first
I bought this writer to copy my HDV movies onto blue-ray and play them on my playstation 3. Once i wrote my first BD-RE , i put it in my PS3. It would not play and kept ask me a 4 digit password.Having no passwords set up i called playstation. Their rep was unable to help. Once i chatted the sony customer service from the burner, i got help. He was nice enough to give me the link for the burner's software upgrade. I had to re-write my disc again and it played flawlessly on my PS3. This burner is perfect if you have a HDV camcorder and a Playstation 3. Picture quality was superb.
Installation was a piece of cake. Needed to buy a 20 bucks firewire card in addition, that was it.
why not 5 stars? The PowerDVD software and the overall price tag.

Rating: - Works as advertized but don't expect disks to play to on your HDTV
The drive was easy to set up and worked OK for data storage. Unfortunately the drive and software supplied will not make HD movies or slide shows that can be played on Blu-Ray disk players. By using other software it is possible to make disks that will play on some, but not Sony, Blu-Ray players.
The drive as supplied will not fit through the front plate of my new Dell XPS desktop computer (too wide) - have seen similar comments from other buyers.
