Equipped with a pair of pagers--one with a color LCD screen and a fully animated graphics display--the system is a must for anyone who lives in a high-theft neighborhood or who frequently parks in traditional break-in zones. The main remote transceiver works by sending and receiving high-frequency FM signals to/from your vehicle, often over long distances (depending on location, terrain, and local RF noise/interference). The signals can range from basic commands, such as "lock doors," "activate alarm system," or "open trunk," to a series of alerts that tell you when someone is trying to break in. The alerts even mention how the thief is trying to gain entry, such as through the doors or trunk, or whether he or she is turning the ignition.

Another convenient feature is the remote engine starter. Ideal for cold mornings or evenings, the device lets you warm up your car's engine and interior from a distance while you relax in the living room or pay the restaurant tab. Once you arrive at the car, the engine and heater will be nice and warm, so you don't have to shiver uncontrollably for the first five minutes of the drive. Users have several different startup choices: they can start the car with the push of a button, they can program the car to start once the doors unlock, or they can program the starter to engage at a specific time. The car will then run unattended until the user shows up. And should you get waylaid by a friend or a phone call, the starter is programmed to shut off within a window of 12 to 48 minutes.

The CS-2016DP-FM conveniently plugs into your car's data-linking module via its data port, which requires a minimum of setup. And thanks to the many programmable modes, the system responds to a variety of remote requests. Among the programmable options are passive arming and locking (automatically arms the alarm or locks the doors when you leave the vehicle), a valet mode that disables the alarm and remote starter options, and automatic locking and unlocking based on the turn of the ignition.

Perhaps the handiest feature, however, is the side button on the main transceiver that lets you switch between vehicles. No longer do you have to haul along a completely separate keychain control to operate the alarm system in your spouse's car. Rather, the CS-2016DP-FM's transceivers can work both systems, provided the information is programmed into the handhelds ahead of time.

Other snappy functions unique to the CS-2016DP-FM include several types of confirmations (horn, siren, lights, etc.) that correspond to specific actions, remote panic protection that draws attention to your vehicle during an emergency, a six-tone 125 dB siren, an anti-carjack mode that kills the starter until deactivated, and a tamper alert mode that lets you know if an alarm has been triggered. The system is also backed by a transferable limited lifetime warranty.

- Alarm destroyed car's battery
We purchased the Crimestopper alarm and had it professionally installed in our Toyota Landcruiser. After less than a month we first used the remote start feature and it drained and destroyed our car's 5-month-old battery. The same place that installed the alarm replaced the battery and once the new battery was in they saw the alarm was faulty. They disconnected the alarm to prevent further damage. We bought the alarm on a recommendation from a friend but will never purchase a Crimestopper alarm ... Read More

- dont waste your money
I have a similar model I bought on e-bay shipped from Crime Stopper warehouse. They wont support it, they refer me to the retailer that sold it to me and or installed it.

My biggest gripe is the 2 way pager works one way most of the time and sometimes out of the blue it will receive updates letting me know my doors are unlocked or locked. I bought for the very reason of having a paging remote in case of break-in, no garage and cant see my car from my apartment.

- STAY AWAY FROM IT
I bought it coz it was cheaper than the rest and the following are the faults:

1. The unit came faulty in that the two way communication won't work. It will only communicate one way.

2. Called crimestopper tech support and an arrogant personal picked up. Both he and I agreed the problem is either with the remote or the antenna, but he wants me to disconnect everything and send him the entire unit.
