Turning hardcopy text, images or PDFs into editable text is as easy as 1,2,3. First, you scan your document with your flatbed scanner, or open a PDF file or image document. (Readiris Pro 11 is compatible with the most commonly used images and PDF files.). Once the file is opened in the software, you click on "recognize and save," and within seconds your document is converted into and editable digital file. The final step is to export your document into you favorite application, such as Word, Excel, Acrobat (PDF), Internet Explorer (HTML), and more.

Readiris Pro will save you incredible amounts of retyping time. The new OCR engine of Readiris Pro 11 is optimized for speed and accuracy and features over 70 new major improvements from previous versions. Not only will Readiris Pro 11 give you 30 percent greater text accuracy, the program's advanced Autoformat technology also perfectly retains the layout of the original document in the output. The Ideal PDF Solution
Readiris Pro can open your PDF file (even read-only PDFs) and generate four different types of PDF files: fully searchable Image over Text, Text over Image, Text only and Image only. Multi-Page Scanning Ability and More

- crashes constantly
I have a new Mac Pro with 4 Meg RAM and am using an HP LaserJet scanner to try to get a document into OCR using ReadIRIS Pro 11. I can do 1 page just fine, but if I ask it to do 2 or more pages, it crashes every time, losing all my work. I called their TechSupport and they said since I'm using Leopard that I need to get the latest TWAIN driver from HP, which I think I already had, but I re-downloaded the driver and re-installed anyway. I have been using Readiris Pro 11 for some time now, but on a PC. I recently just switched to MAC. So of course I had to buy the corresponding Readiris Pro 11. I was weary because of the reviews that I read on here, but to my surprise it worked just fine on my MAC. There were a little bit more kinks that I had to work out, which I didnt have to worry about on my PC, but once I got through those, everything else worked great. - My Thoughts On Readiris Pro 11 MAC
I think that Readiris Pro 11 MAC does what it's supposed to do. I use the software to convert our company newsletter into a PDF document so I can archive it and I have not had any major problems. I agree that it is not the best MAC software, but it doesn't claim to be the best MAC software. It claims that its OCR technology is fast and accurate and from what I have found that claim is true. I haven't really explored all the other aspects of the software, but for the job that I need to get done, the software ... Read More

- Doesn't recognize any characters!
This didn't work at all, even with a perfectly clear pdf file of a journal article page. It got one word correct off the entire page. Luckily I had version 7.0 that came with my printer, so I didn't waste any money, just time.

Over the years I have bought thousands of dollars of stuff from Amazon, and have almost always been satisified. I have had to return a few items, but I have never been motivated to write a review until now. The so called "handprinting" recognition doesn't work, even on the .jpg file provided on the CD, and after a few tries even recognition of printed material produces either garbage or a blank page or crashes, in fact repeatedly.
