Schumacher's SEM-1562A low amperage charger is an ideal way to maintain a battery's charge for people who don't use their vehicle everyday, who go short distances, or who do lots of stop-and-go driving. It can also be used to charge small batteries for ATVs, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and lawn tractors, or even for batteries that have a long storage time. In cold climates, they're indispensable for keeping batteries warm overnight and ready for starting.

Features
The SEM-1562A maintains both 6-volt and 12-volt batteries, keeping them at full charge using float-mode monitoring. The unit will automatically switch from full-charge to float-mode monitoring when the battery is charged to prevent overcharging. Smart display LEDs indicate whether the unit is in charge, charging, or trouble modes.

Versatile
The SEM-1562A is perfect for charging small batteries, maintaining small and large batteries kept in storage, and batteries for motorcycles, classic cars, TVs, and boats. It's small enough to fit under the hood of your car or truck.

Safe and Effective
The unit has a quick disconnect harness for easy removal. Use the 50 amp clamps to connect to the battery or permanently attach the ring connectors--great for hard to reach motorcycle batteries. It also has a reverse hookup protection in case the clamps are accidentally connected to the wrong terminals.

Warranty
Every Schumacher power source comes with a one-year limited warranty (90 days on battery).

Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Maintains a float charge on a battery, which for batteries that are stored over the winter is perfect so that come spring they are charged without any sulfation.

I purchased this maintainer for my motorcycle to keep the battery up over winter. This does the same thing as "Battery Tender" but costs half the price. I have two other larger Schumacher chargers that I have owned and used for ten years.

This is a great little unit... I actually own 4 of them. I use them to maintain the batteries on my two motorcycles, the lawn tractor and my Porsche over the winter. They are connect and forget, which is great. Since they employ "float charging" there's no danger of overcharging a battery which can happen if you leave a regular battery charger connected too long. I wouldn't recommend one of these to bring a fully discharged battery back to life since the charging output is so low, I'd use a regular ... Read More

This charger is really cool. I can plug it and leave it. It monitors the state of the battery and adjusts accordingly. It is really well made! And,despite the fact that Schumacher makes the same unit for Sears, the unit is actually cheaper through Amazon. You also avoid Sears (something I do at all costs!), the shipping is free over $25 and you saved gas!

How can one loose with the reliability of Amazon and Schumacher?

I have a collectors car that the battery kept going low in while its not driven much. On reading and researching trickle chargers, the Schumacher got excellent reviews from several people. I ordered the unit, and when it arrived I found that it had no instructions. Having worked on cars a bit I figured out how to hook the unit up. First thing to mention.
