- A bit old-school but works beautifully
PROS: RF works flawlessly, can learn to control anything, excellent usability and ergonomics.

CONS: Must buy from an authorized dealer to get updateable software, programming is via RS-232 and can't be done in Vista, no rechargeable battery.

I just replaced our family's much-abused MX-700 with a new MX-850 and made it work just fine despite some initial difficulties. For the benefit of other buyers, here's my experience.

First off, there's the software, which is not included in the box. You have to visit the universalremote.com site, and download it. - Great remote!!! Love it!! I have it for over 3 years.
This is a great remote. Please do not listen to the negative reviews. There is a learning curve, but not really. You hook it up to your computer and the program is very user friendly. You just need to be patient. My wife loves the remote. I put in the macros that turn on the TV, receiver & cable box all at one time. Plus, the macro puts the TV & the receiver on the correct inputs. I just love this remote. I am thinking of getting another remote for the downstairs TV.

The remote does not ship with programming instructions. The pamphlet that ships with it advises you to hire a professional programmer. In San Diego, you can hire the nerds at GeekSquad down at Best Buy to do the programming.

- Exactly what I was looking for......
Easy to program and very responsive. We're back to a one remote household with multiple devices to control. My favorite aspect was the ability to use my PC to set up the commands which sends them to the remote. Any future changes or additions will be a breeze.
