This system allows you to view up to eight camera locations in real-time sequentially in full-screen, or simultaneously in quad or PIP (picture-in-picture) modes. The included four cameras have a built-in motion-sensing function so you won't miss any action, while the monitor has a built-in video capture card and USB output that allows remote security viewing over the Internet. Featuring two-way audio, remote control, and other features the Lorex SG2284UQ-A is a complete, self-contained expandable observation system perfect for monitoring your home, or your small- to medium-sized business.

The SG2284UQ-A's 12-inch black-and-white picture-tube monitor can be operated via its built-in main panel or via an included remote control. Protected by a durable metal cabinet housing, this monitor includes eight DIN/BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman) composite video inputs, and eight RCA audio inputs. Also included are four alarm inputs with two alarm outputs for connecting external alarm devices. The SG2284UQ-A's monitor features on-screen display of date/time/camera, a stand-by switch that allows recording to occur while the monitor is off, video-loss detection warning, and two-way audio capability that lets you speak to a camera location with the push of a button. This unit also features selectable still-frame in quad or full-screen, a 2x zoom function, and the ability to view live and recorded video simultaneously in a three-by-three matrix format, as well as a both main and PIP channel display modes. Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.
