Designed to handle a wide range of media, the MD100 shreds paper, compact disks, floppy disks, and credit cards into unusable 3/16-by-1½-inch confetti-style pieces so you can rest easy knowing that your personal information is properly destroyed. Time magazine named the MD100 one of the coolest inventions of 2003, due to its ease of use and ability to flatten raised numbers on credit cards before shredding them, among other things.

The MD100's 8.25-liter wastebasket is made of clear plastic so you can see the remains of your shreds and know when it's time to empty. The auto start/auto stop setting lets you shred media simply by inserting it into the slot. The 5-inch slot size means that you do have to fold paper in half before shredding (up to 7 folded sheets can be shredded in one pass), but that's a small price to pay for a machine that shreds CDs and DVDs in less than 5 seconds.

The MD100 has a 9.75-by-7.5-inch footprint, fitting neatly under any desk. It comes backed with a one-year limited warranty on both parts and labor.

- Heavy duty shredder for all your CD/DVD destroying needs!
I bought this shredder three years ago and it's still going strong! Over the three years I must've shredded around 1,000 discs, and about a ream of paper. I would've given this review five stars if it wasn't for a few drawbacks. The first is that it takes a while to shred a disc or a piece of paper. If you got a one or two disc job then it's A OK, but like me sometimes I do about 50 discs at a time. So it does get time consuming. It's also very loud. It doesn't matter if your shredding paper ... Replaced an Excutive Cross Cut shredder that was operating for 3 yrs.
CON: Pricey for a little item. I expected a larger/taller shredder bin, emptying the bin often. Throat is small, must fold the papers in 1/2 (lenghtwise). Can't access the blades to clean if self-adhesive labels get stuck.
PRO: The enclose bin keeps the paper dust contained. It does the job. Won't know the Shredder's life span, hopefully it will out live my previous shredder.

Like everyone else, I was looking for a way to destroy CD's/DVD's, primarily those used as backups. Now that it's possible to back-up almost an entire hard drive to a very few CD-sized media, it's important to maintain possession and version control. The possession is obvious: I wouldn't toss out an intact hard drive, for fear of identity theft, etc. The same is true of your backup media. I have a number of shredders and bought this one mainly for it's capacity to destroy CDs and DVDs. It does an excellent job of that. It literally destroys them and they're totally useless and forever lost. The same for credit cards and small amounts of paper --- although I wouldn't buy it for paper as there are other machines far superior for that.

This is perfect for the desktop. It excels at destroying credit cards, DVDs, CDs and Floppy Disc. In an emergency you can use it to shred paper, including staples.

Because DVDs, CDs and Floppy Disc are dense, they lay flat, and take up very little room in the debris basket. Since paper is light, it will bunch up, filling the debris basket fast. If you do a lot of paper, you want to consider a paper shredder with a larger basket.
