MediaStudio Pro is a suite of four digital video applications (as well as a digital audio program) that work in concert with each other. There are separate applications for video capturing, video editing, frame-by-frame retouching (video painting), and text and title generation. Switching from one app to another is handled through the usual Windows Alt-Tab keyboard combo, or if the sister program isn't already running there is a "switch" menu on top that will launch the targeted program.

When these applications work, they work well. The problem is that each application is a bit buggy, and the suite overall is not so easy to use. Although already up to version 6, the programs are not as mature as one would think they would be. The video painting module, for example, worked well with my mouse but refused to move the cursor when using a Wacom tablet. A painting program that doesn't recognize a drawing tablet handicaps the artist using it.

The video capture module managed to work with the FireWire port on my Compaq and control my DV camera. Capturing footage on the fly (as the tape plays) was easy, but setting up a batch capture proved convoluted. The whole workflow of the capture module needs to be smoothed out and streamlined.

The audio editing tool is fairly straightforward and interfaces nicely with the editor, which also works well. I especially liked the Explorer method of navigating media elements and the onscreen layout in general. The editor, in fact, is the best-working element in the suite.

Overall, MediaStudio Pro has a lot to offer. Its execution and stability leave something to be desired, but then again, this is a point-zero release. Ulead surely will be addressing these issues in a 6.5 (or so) release soon. If so, MediaStudio Pro could be a tool to be reckoned with. --Mike Caputo

- MSP 6.0 VE is the best
I upgraded to MSP 6.0 Full from PYRO DVs MSP 6.0 VE This was due to slowdown using the Full Version. MSP 6.0 VE is actually better than the full version!, if you dont have a good pc. I do have a good one(AMD/Athlon 1.3Ghz, 256ram, 60gig hd) I can output to my CD burner, and I can use it on my home network, 2 Desktops, 2 Laptops. 3 of them are top-of-the-range and 1 is old, but it works fine. I have to hand it to Ulead Systems: Bravo!

MEDIASTUDIO PRO 6 is a terrific upgrade from the older version 5.2.

I also feel it is a much more powerful and fully featured product than the other company's (Adobe) video editing software.

Ulead has chosen to offer a *suite* of separate programs.

I like this approach.

I have been using MSPro 6VE since it was released with the ADS Pyro earlier this year. I upgraded to the full version a few months ago. I have had a lot of Fun & Success with the F/X & features such as Picture in Picture, Reverse & Slow motion.

- Great improvement on an already SUPER product!
MSP 6 enhances an already wonderful product with features for the digital video age. With support for firewire, a much better interface, and new transitions & effects, this is a must have for owners of previous versions of MediaStudio Pro. Ulead has done this right. I love it!

- Not a finished product
Ulead has very bad support. The editing program is good enough now that they have release the patch.I have been wasting a lot of time with the capture program that on my machine at least has problems capturing sound. I may or may not get a fix, but if I could find another program to use with my ADS PYRO card I would use it.
